I have just been copying over a poorly laid out score for a jazz 3-horn arrangement, which starts with 4 bars of rest while the rhythm section vamps. This kind of intro is very common.
The original has a multimeasure rest for those 4 bars, which saves space and rehearsal time. I am unable to achieve this in a Notion/Mobile score and I can't add other parts from the score into a "single" part, where I could have a multi measure rest. I know, I could export to MusicXML and do final adjustments like this in another program (•cough* MuseScore or Sibelius *cough*) but I'd really rather not. And I am aware that Notion/Mobile is intended as a "composition" program, not an engraving program. But... the line between the two functions is thin and permeable. Could the programmers consider allowing for multimeasure rests in scores as a special option, or multi-part parts, sort of like string divisi, in parts? |
You can do this in NOTION 6 . . .
THOUGHTS I do not have NOTION Mobile, but you can do this in desktop NOTION . . . I downloaded the NOTION Mobile User Guide, and on page 16 it provides this information: "Multi-measure rests (Parts view only) - this will collate multiple measure rests in a part, into a single multi-measure rest. Select the minimum number of individual measure rests to be shown, before they are collated" I have not done this previously, but I was able to do it in NOTION after a bit of reading and focusing . . . [NOTE: I use Studio One to compose and play music using music notation and VSTI virtual instruments in Continuous View; and other than doing posts like this one, I never print sheet music. The following YouTube video shows the prototype for the first part of a new chapter in my ongoing old-time science fiction radio play, "Extreme Gravity". This does not require me to wander into printing sheet music or "engraving" as it is called. I use simple drumkit percussion as a metronome when I am doing voice-overs, and afterward I add melodic, harmonic, and other instruments, as well as foley sounds, and focus on enhancing the multiplicity of the percussion, so it's not just a pair of kick drums and a pair of snare drum rimshots. This is mixed for listening with studio-quality headphones or Apple AirPods Pro. There are echoes, custom panning, and motion effects which are designed and produced for headphone listening . . . ] It appears to be a Parts View function and might occur only when you are printing or preparing to print . . . I have an iPhone 12 mini, so I might download and install NOTION Mobile and give it a try . . . Nevertheless, the documentation for NOTION Mobile indicates it does multimeasure rests . . . Lots of FUN!

Hi,
Multi-measure rests works Parts view only. Select the minimum number of individual measure rests to be shown, before they are collated. Then Score Setup > View Options > Multi-Measures Rests..
