I am running an X370 gigabyte board, with 16G DDR4, GTX 1060 video card, AMD Ryzen 1700 processor, Windows 10 64-bit. I have tried 3 different Firewire cards based on Presonus's approved list. Two of these are powered and one unpowered. They use either approved TI or Via chipsets. Device manager says the cards function correctly. I have installed the latest Universal Control and it seems to work. As soon as I power up the Firestudio Project my system crashes. I get the BSOD, and an error message stating "stopcode", the computer sends an error report to Microsoft and the computer reboots. It reboots fine if i turn off the Firestudio. I have swapped card slots, installed legacy drivers, tried 3 different cards, and tried various Window's compatibility modes and still cannot prevent the system from crashing when I power on the Firestudio. The only other add on cards I am using are a video card and a USB 3.0 expander card. No issues there. HELP - I really don't want to be the owner of a $300 bookend.

Vantec UGT FW200 (powered), Syba PEX30016 (powered), and a Syba PEX30009. I believe this information to be correct. I have returned all but the PEX30016. I have a Roswell 504 IEEE 1394 on order currently. Unfortunately the "tested" cards that Presonus currently has listed are obsolete.
I have contacted the card manufacturer's and these are what they recommended for replacements.
Thanks for your interest!

Thank you for your interest. I had a PCI card in the past and it did work. Unfortunately I am currently limited to PCIe options.

They also have a PCIe version. I have found Startech to be the most reliable over the years.

Will check it out next if the card I ordered doesn't work. As far as the Universal Control version I am using 1.7.6. Sorry about the misunderstanding. Thanks again

3 things I would say are suspect. The card, which you are working with, the firewire cable itself, or possibly a bad install of UC.

I do not believe the cable is bad, it is the same one I used previously. I have removed and reinstalled Universal Control 3 times now. (also checked registry for any "stray data"), While I like the quality of the Firestudio it has always been a little temperamental. I will post a new update after I try the next card. It should be here tomorrow (Wednesday). Thank you.

I finally won!!! I installed the latest Presonus Universal Control (Version 1.7.6) for Windows 10 64-bit I installed a Rosewill PCIe FireWire card (RC-504). Using Windows 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (10.0.16299.15 dated 06/21/2006) and went and set the compatibility control on the Universal Control for Windows XP SP3 and it is running steady. This has been a challenging experience. Thanks for all comments and feedback. Hope this helps others going forward. :D

This might be of help to others with this similar problem.
I recently built a ryzen system to use with my Studiolive AI

I had so many problems after many many re-install of Windows I discovered that the SYBA TI Chipset Firewire card was causing my system to crash constantly. that is when I started researching to see if the X370 chipset had a problem with firewire and ran across this post and a similar one on the ASROCK website.

I ordered another firewire card. the STARTECH. this card works fine and seems to be holding up.
