Hello friends! Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. I recently purchased the 192 and loved it for the first week...until I was forced to update the firmware. At which point things went very very south. Now whenever I use logic or ableton the audio progressively becomes more and more distorted. Other words to describe it would be crackling/bit crushing.

I've read these forums and have seen other people have had the same issue. I haven't really found a solution though. I have reached out to support and opened a ticket. For weeks now we've been going back and forth. They're nice, but take way too long to reply - probably because of a heavy work load (that's not good, right?).

Anyways, I'm pretty discouraged at this point. I was REALLY hoping to resolve this issue, but now I'm starting to think it might be a common problem with either the 192 or UC. I wanted to be a fan of presonus, but so far this has been a terrible experience.

Running on a 2013 Macbook Pro High Sierra 10.13.2

UC 2.5.1

I'm using a USB 2.0 cable.

I've tested other audio interfaces and they're not giving me these issues.

It is possible to revert your interface back to a previous firmware by uninstalling current UC and then install an older version of UC instead.
After installation and start of UC, you can replace firmware.
Downloads here:
https://www.presonus.com/products/UC-Surface/downloads
There is a link called: "Show / Hide all versions of software downloads"
I recommend you try UC version 2.1.1 first. If the firmware that comes with it does not work, you might have to go back even further... something like version 1.8.3
good luck

Hi there.

My experience about this issue has been almost the same.

I'm using 3 different Mac computers: Mac Pro 5.1, MacBook Air 2013, Mac mini 2012.

The problem began with Mac OS 10.3.2 update. Apple stated that they fixed some compatibility issues with third party USB audio devices with this release... well... while doing so they broke compatibility with some or most systems running Studio 192.

I've tested the latest UC version/firmware as well as the previous one with no success.

I've reported the bug directly to Apple ... but ... I don't know with they'll take the time to review this issue.

Presonus technical staff has been very kind and helpful as usual... but from what I understood they don't consider the problem their fault because it's apparently system dependent.

The problem with my Mac Pro has no solution... wether on USB2.0 or 3.0 I invariable get a nasty distortion about 15-20 seconds of playback. Things a better on USB2.0 but I can still hear sporadic pops.

On my Macbook Air things get a bit better... sporadic pops on USB3.0 but apparently fine on USB2.0.

Presonus recommends to use USB2.0 cables but I've used USB3.0 from El Capitán to High Sierra 10.3.1 with no problems whatsoever.

So... the solution right now is to stay or roll back to OS 10.13.1... At least here - that works.

OSX 10.11, Mac Pro 2010 , Mac Mini 2012, Studio One v. 3.1, Firestudio Project, Firestudio Lightpipe, Firestudio Mobile, AudioBox iOne, Faderport, Mackie MCU, UAD Octo/Quad.

I have exactly the same issue. Even tried replacing the USB cables and switching to USB2 but so far no luck :(

Tried re-installing High Sierra, but that didn't fix it (I kept ending up with 10.13.2).

Eventually I 'upgraded' to Sierra (had to do a full re-install for that. S192 works great again. Apart from the crackling High Sierra never worked very well with a number of plugins and Presonus software.

Exactly the same issue with me. macOS 10.13.1 works so don't upgrade beyond that. I have had many exchanges of support emails, In the end I found that disabling the Presonus Hardware Support fixed the issue in macOS 10.13.2 and 10.13.3.

Obviously disabling the Hardware support, is not a good situation to be in because it renders the Studio One interplay with the 192 pretty useless in the Console and recording / mixing.

Very disapointed that Presonus cannot sort this out, my gut feeling is it's a clocking issue, because the time between the blips / pops vary depending out what pitches are being played i.e on a VST virtual instrument. ALSO the blips / pops get obviously more extreme when playing a chord!!

I'm sticking with macOS 10.13.1 until / if the problem gets sorted.
I have created a test disk / drive with the latest macOS builds and Studio One / UC firmware - a brand new spanking clean Install of macOS with no third party VST / AU only using Presonus instruments , this makes it easier to test without having to worry about 3rd party VST being the problem etc.

Same issue on Windows 10, USB 2.0 and 3.0 cables, Clean install. Old install

Taking a huge loss in the pocketbook and switching from a 192 to a Quantum resolved the problem immediately.

UC Control update 2.5.2.45951 and the applied firmware update to the 192 and also Studio One 3.5.5 have fixed all my issues now.

I can now use macOS 10.13.3 without any clicks/pops etc

Thank you Presonus :)
