HI,
i think this could (theoretically) be THE router for the presonus mixers!
a bit pricey, but if it works, worth every cent, maybe...
any experiences?

@presonus guys: do you test this device already? woud be happy about a statement

Nice catch ! but...
except for the 19" housing I can't see the benefit of this router ,especially at this price point . Maybe the diversity function gives some signal stability . I could not find any confirmation about gigabit lan so I guess it's a 100 Mbit/s lan, so Dante etc. is not possible..

Meh.... It's a neat form factor but that's about all.

I have one of these in my rack. It is definitely worth every cent / penny.

Glad to hear someone's very satisfied with the product ! What are the benefits , compared to a normal router ?

Good to know these work well. I'm always cynical about this sort of thing. My day job is in networking and I've seen too many nice form factor pieces of junk with terrible firmware and no ongoing support. There's a range of "av" switches that fall into that category.

But for putting stuff in an audio rack, it's lovely to have the connections round the back.

The obvious one is the form factor. I've had Airport Express and Linksys units in the past and they end up battered and abused in the kit box or dragged onto the floor when someone catches one of the cables as they're walking past. Those sort of routers are designed for home consumer use and built as such.
Most home routers use a wall wart for power, with the flimsy 12v connector thats easy to pull out with the slightest tug on the cable.
Most home routers will try to set up everything for you or bury the "advanced" settings in hard to find sub menus/tabs.

The Nowsonic is a metal, 1u box. It has a proper IEC power connection. The antennas are external and replaceable so you could use remotely placed, high gain antennas if you want.
There are no sub menus, the setup app is extremely logical. The instructions are minimal, but they're not required. 2.4G and 5G are totally independent and either or both can be switched off.
Yes, the ports are only 100Mb, but as all it's doing is providing DHCP and WiFi that's not an issue. One patch lead to a gigabit switch with as many ports as you need and your networking is all sorted.
The power switch is on the FRONT :D

@karyn:

thanks for your report. Do you know how long it takes from powering up until a stable wifi connection is present? Most routers need up to a few minutes...
if this one is faster, this and the road-ready formfactor are good reasons to buy!

I've not timed it, but it is a handful of seconds (maybe 10 -15) as opposed to a minute or two.

My setup routine is to take the front and back off the rack, connect the power and switch it on before I do anything else. Then go and plugin the speakers and power them on. Finally connect laptop(s), iPad(s), SL32AI and any other network equipment. I'm never waiting around for the router.

My rack contains the Stage Router hardwired to a gigabit switch which has RM32, McMini and multiple Sennheiser units. The RM has a fixed IP as it boots faster than the router, but everything else is quite happy with DHCP. By the time I get around to turning on iPad(s) the rack has been on for maybe 15 minutes already...

I just did two shows this weekend with the Nowsonic Stage Router Pro (this year's new model) next to the regular Airport Extreme I have been using so far. I'm very pleased with the NowSonic, the signal is stronger and also the connection is faster or is more stable. Where I used to have inconsistent meters on my inputs in the iPad or MacOS apps, as they sometimes were not responding or had a delayed response, with the NowSonic it's very rapid and accurate.

That said, there was only one device (mine) connected to the router, as the five band members were still doing their monitors on my Airport Extreme network. I'll be testing the NowSonic with multiple connections the next weeks and keep you updated.

The signal also seems stronger, as I could move further away from my RM32AI at the stage than usual. NowSonic now also offers separate stage antennas and stage extenders, which can be connected to the Stage Router Pro (and also the first version).

I realize that I perhaps sound like a salesperson from NowSonic, but after 2 shows I'm quite impressed. And the prospect of not having to worry about the Apple Airport Extreme moving or falling off the RM32, is very appealing.

Has anyone some experiences with the stage router and Dante?
i plan the following rig:
RM16 connected to Stage router- hardwire from the stage router to my FOH Laptop
(Control and Dante Audio)-
wireless network from stage router to my ipad...simple stupid ;)

Will this work just with the stage router (even the non Pro version which is 100Mbit LAN),
without an additional Switch?
This is hard for me to understand, maybe i have to do some Networking training.... :reading:

Thanks for helping a poor networking newbie!

The number of Dante channels is limited by the network speed. Check audinate.com for precise numbers, but put simply you should be using gigabit for an RM series. It will work at 100MB... but...

I have an HP Enterprise series gigabit switch mounted in my rack along with the stage router. Just patch a single port on the stage router to a port in the switch and connect everything else to the switch.
In this case it doesn't matter that the stage router ports are only 100 as its only providing a WiFi bridge and DHCP, all Dante traffic stay in the switch.

Thanks Karyn for your (always) quick answers!

so, it technically will work...?
Audinate requires a gigabit switch for a channel count above 32, so it would work, but no headroom left. (they don´t tell me if the channels are counted as 32 ins and 32 outs)
maybe the 100euros more on the stage router pro version could be a good place to put money on if this means i don´t need a seperate switch with extra cables, extra wallwart and so on...

Yeah, the difference in price is less than the cost of a decent switch. If you decide you need more ports don't go cheap with a switch. Most of the cheap ones use EEE (power saving) which breaks Dante.

My Stage router has found its place in my Rack!

i decided to go for the non pro version because i found the information that Audinate requires a gigabit network for channel counts above 32x32. My setups will rarely exceed 16x16 channels,
So i did not see a reason to spend over 100 euros more on nothing. If i (ever) need more channels, a 5 port gigabit switch is quite cheap...
Saturday is my first gig with the stage router, the dante card will perhaps arrive today...

This router works really good!
The wifi side is ready in under 30 seconds, very stable connection, roadready construction.
I can strongly recommend the nowsonic stage router!
BUT: Don´t expect a good function when routing Dante Data through this router, i could not get it to work properly (accidentially transmitted pieces of broken audio over wifi and so on...).
SO if you plan to go with dante, buy the non pro version plus a seperate switch! at least that´s my experience, but in my case dante doesn´t seem to work at all, maybe my dante card is broken... but that´s another topic...

I find that hard to believe.

That would imply you had a second Dante device also connected by WiFi in order to receive this "broken audio", but Dante specifically will not create a connection across WiFi. You can't even run Dante VSC or Via if WiFi is the only connection available.

I totally agree with you though about using a separate switch for all network traffic other than WiFi, semi-managed switches are not expensive and you can easily make your network 100% reliable even with default settings by using the correct grade of equipment. i.e. pro not consumer.

Could any of you that own this router please help? I bought the Pro version 2 months ago and it sat in the box until I had all the rest of my hardware to change up to our new monitor rack. I took a quick look in the box when it first arrived and didn't realize they forgot to include the PowerCON power cord and antennas. I know.. my bad.. I've since tried contacting their eBay reseller I got it from to let them know but I can't get a reply back and it's past the time to get eBay to assist. I just bought a power cord but I can't figure out what to buy for 5ghz antennas. I'd like to not wait weeks for them to reply and ship replacements from Europe. Could any of you possibly see an item number on your 5ghz antennas so I can just buy replacements?

Thank you!!

Hi I’ve only just discovered these routers & found this post.

So after some time are you all still satisfied with the router?

I’m planning to get one for my Rm32ai configuration. Would go with the standard version as I don’t see any added value for me with the pro version.

I’m using avb and have the Cs18 & Motu switch. For me the router should be connected to the non avb port on the motu switch as it’s not sending audio so speed limitations are WiFi.

Thanks for your feedback
Cheers
