I have imported midi drums that consists of 10 different midi tracks. I want to merge these into one track but can´t find a quick way.... can anybody please point me in the right direction?
(I do not want a folder or a group track... just 1 plain midi track that is the sum of the 10 tracks)

Can't you just copy and paste the various data into one midi track
|
Put all events on top of each other (aligned properly), then select all of them and hit G (or select the Merge command from the menu). This results in a single event.

Yes, it's in the manual... 6.12.3 Multitrack Music Editing
It's maybe often viewed as being less than polite to keep saying "rtm" to these types of questions so... a gif works. P.S. There is an existing FR for that to "Transfer to New Track", to create a new midi track for the note transfers (same position) instead of only being able to transfer to existing / selected tracks or clips. |
Thank you for your help! I think the advice from Sunmachine was more what I was looking for but I can surely see a good use for the second way too suggested by LMike. Thank you both!
In my head I was looking for a way to just select a number of tracks (or regions) and do "merge tracks" and point to the resulting track but maybe maybe people don't have the need for this as often as I do.

I've just tried that in version 5.4 but the layers are put on top of each other and you can only see and hear the top layer merging or not ! Am I missing something here ? |
G or merge, is not working on MIDI clips that are stacked, where one is visible and the other is hidden. Same problem in version 5.4 and 5.5.
I have two MIDI clips in the arranger window and both are stacked together at the same exact point in time. I lasso the area, it selects only the top (displayed) clip, and now merging with G DOES NOT join/comp these two overlapping clips together. I assume because S1 is too stupid to know that a lasso means select everything, not just the top layer. To add insult to injury, it actually expands the clips length based on, well... something. (I suspect it's looking at the length of the truly idiotic construct of MIDI zones. -Maybe) Anyway... Holy hell, can someone please make sure I'm not crazy!!! This is very basic and critical functionality. Workaround: Make both clips (visible and hidden) selectable at the same time, Shift+click each clip, now use G to merge. Then fix the new expanded size of the clip. You have to drag the hidden clips beginning or end to a place where it can be selected or seen beyond the top/visible clip. Yes, you'll have to move the top layer somewhere so that the hidden clip becomes visible, expand the hidden clips boundaries, and move the top clip back into place. This may also require dragging adjacent clips out of the way to make room for expanding the hidden clip and/or providing a temporary place for the top clip. Try it, it SUCKS!

Time to calm down.
Selecting two stacked instrument events by drawing a selection and pressing G to merge both events works just fine here. Not sure if you really select it the same way as I do or if you have some options what interfere in some way. Anyway - it works as expected on my end. kurtackerman wroteI have two MIDI clips in the project window I assume you mean the song / arranger window? The project page does not support instrument events.

Thank you Jazzundso for the reply. I do so appreciate a good community coming together to do the job of what technical support should handle. I really do wish this were so simple as your lovely example. Mine is not working this way. And yes, I did mean the song/arranger window.
I just want to destructively merge two midi/drum clips that are the same length, at the same point in time. I'm attaching an example mimicking yours: I have a stacked clip that I move side by side like you did. I then re-stack them on top of each other, lasso exactly as you have, press G to merge and nothing happens. Both clips are not selected when on top of each other and S1 has no choice but to ignore the merge command. My second attachment is my workaround. Move the clips side by side, extend one out so that when stacked you can select (shift+click) each clip. Now that both clips are selected, the merge command works. Sorry the videos aren't inline, but after 20 minutes, different format attempts, and onedrive links not being supported, this has turned out to be another frustrating operation. I'm done trying to learn forum html programming for today.

This is an old thread, but this is the real solution to this problem in 2 steps, and I hope that it helps someone: 1. With both MIDI sections on the same track, and wherever you want them to be in line with the grid, you place the loop marker from the start of one, to the end of the other, meaning from where you want to start, to where you want to end. 2. Make the loop active and use the command for "Merge All Events in Loop." I have set mine to "Alt + M", but you can find the default command, or set a new one for yourself in the "Options"/"Preferences" menu under "Keyboard Shortcuts." No other form of merge works for me except for "Merge All Events in Loop" ->specifically<- |
GazzerG wroteI know this is an old post but for anyone still having this issue, all you have to do after stacking the tracks is: Thanks a lot! The Ctrl-Shift-A before "Merge" did the trick for me, bc the other (older) solution (just stack the events and then merge) didn't... |
