I'm a working drummer, and I have just gotten into the digital recording world... A bit daunting, but I'm in set up mode. I purchased the 1818VSL as well as the Digimax D8 for the additional channel requirements. I do have the lightpipe connections (ADAT) but want to ensure I'm doing this right. Is the light cable just plug and play, or do I need to make some additional adjustments on the laptop in the software to ensure this all works correctly? I have not even connected this cabling yet! I'm running a standard Windows 8.1 with the Presonus Studio Artist software. I did download the site software as it cleaned up all the noise immediately when I checked out the system with a voice test. Any tips would be appreciated!

Have you optimized your pc for audio production? Have you disabled wi-fi? Are you plugged into a USB2 or USB3 port? I use an 1818VSL with a Digimax D8 myself and yes, it's pretty much plug and play.....both units show up in S1 as the 1818 but with the additional I/O channels. You can also add two more via SPDIF using a two channel preamp with digital I/O such as the ART DPSII.
Once you get into actual recording there are a TON of tutorial videos out there....a Google search will return a plethora of results!

That being said we can better help you with a bit more info......if you will post your system specs (see my sig), we will be better able to trouble shoot any future problems. Without knowing what type of pc you're running, etc....we can't recommend a "simple fix"

Planning on doing the same setup; AB 1818VSL with Digimax D8. However, I have an Alesis ADAT xt 20 recorder and I would like to use the ADAT OUT on the 1818VSL to connect to the ADAT IN on the Alesis. Is this possible?

Thanks
