FaderPort 8 and FaderPort 16 General Discussion

So I've recently picked up a FP8 and installed all the latest firmware.

I had great fun yesterday setting up third party plugins and editing the stock plugins to be assigned to faders and buttons on the FP8.

I was using the "Page 1/8" setting and was happily banking through the pages for the big plugins, like Pro EQ.

Now I've opened a new song and there's only 1 page? It's the settings/configuration that I created but the other pages have disappeared!

I've gone through the process AGAIN and it's happened.. AGAIN! Only 1 page where there was 8 before?!

What's going on! I want this to work as if I can get this feature to be reliable it'll really help me out. I know there are some "out the box" settings that can be accessed when doing "shift + edit plugins" but I find those configuration to be all over the place and not at all how I'd set them up myself.

Does anyone have any thoughts or experience of this?

I've just spent all afternoon setting these all up again and it was all working wonderful when, while I was still in the same song, all of a sudden the fat channel mapping that I had completed disappeared! I had it set up with comp controls on "page 1/8" an eq controls on "page 2/8". now when I go into "edit plugins" the scribble strip on the top right displays "page 1/1" and all of the parameters I mapped on page can't be accessed or have disappeared!?

Update, I've found (annoyingly) that closing and re=opening the song magically makes the "pages" in the edit plugins feature re-appear!!!! What the hell!!

Thanks for the tip! But please also report this in a support ticket so they can potentially fix it?

Hi all,

Did you find a solution in the end?
I actually noticed it while I didn't even updated it.
So I thought my solution was that there was the update V3.43.
But still no change..

Once you hit "edit plugins" you see the plugins but when pressing the select buttons won't light them up and only show the plugin on screen but doesn't flip the faders anymore

Yes, I can confirm this strange behaviour with losing the 8 bank mappings in FP8. Also I can confirm the workaround to close and reopen SO5 to get the 8 bank mappings back. I personally was realizing this fault since month before.

Also in generally it seems to be FP8/16 comes sometimes sloppy and instability when using big song data with many tracks in SO.

Isn't it time for a serious firmware update for FP8/16?

And please give the FP8/16 users finally a good readable LCD display where are the track names get two rows space for full naming all tracks! Right now it is so horror full. It is a avoidable nightmare!

Hi All, has anyone tried the "Auto-Fill" feature of Studio One / FaderPort? By pressing "Shift" + "Edit Plugins," all known parameters of a plugin will be auto-mapped to the FaderPort. So you don't have to remap anything. This works for 3rd party plugins as well, as long as they report the parameters to Studio One in their code.

Let me know if this works better for you!

Yes I tried it on my FP8. I tried it on Dune3 and it generated 62 pages !!
That was ridiculous, no one can remember them at all and it would be quicker with a mouse.
So I do NOT use that at all. Setting up the main parameters that you want to control does not take too long. I tend to form some kind of sameness about the way I set them up, which makes it easier. For example if a plugin has an output volume, I always put that on fader 8 it kind of matches Studio One with the main out on the right. If there is an input vol I out that on the left. Bypass always goes on button 8 etc..
90% of my mappings are on 1 page with 8% on 2 pages.

A little bit late but here is an answer:

Dear DominicB from PreSonus.

For the 8 pages PlugIns disappearing FP 8/16 bug it is not a solution to switch with Shift + PlugIns button to Auto-Fiil mode and back. The 8 pages (instead of one) in user-mode will only come back if you restart completely the SO DAW.

And as @peterbirch explained below: Especially 3rd party PlugIns with many parameters will be confused sorted by FP 8/16 Auto-Fill mode. This could be a nightmare. Everybody should link well known personally user pages for his own. It is of course much work. But only for one time and you get it. 8 user banks with each 8 slots means for FP 8 sixty-four possibility parameters. (fader and button) This should be enough for remember them all. Otherwise the mouse is much faster.

By the way: Another story which have to discuss here is:

The FP 8/16 Bypass button does not "bypass" any PlugIn it does turn it off and on! Shift + Bypass button does not "bypass" all PlugIns at selected channel. No it turns off (should also bypass) all Inserts and Sends global in SO. The Bypass button only turn of (should bypass) all Inserts at selected track if no PlugIn is in focus. It is wrong documented at PreSonus FD 8/16 user guide.

Why should the Bypass button work as aspected bypass functionality and not as a turn off/on button? The answer is still easy: Because in a big project with many PlugIns which are using a lot off latencies, SO will automatically compensate this. (sometimes over 1000ms) If you switch in play modus between turn off and turn on you have unspeakable audio drops in SO. It would be much better to "bypass all PlugIns without make every time SO latency compensation on and off.

In fact: The FP 8/16 Bypass button is not identity with the Mackie/Hui Midi-control protocol. It is a little bit strange. So dear PreSonus team please give this a attention.

For the record, i raised a ticket for this and didnt reach a resolution. Its still driving me mad and SO frustrating

Ive also noticed if I select to edit sends on a track and then go to edit plugins on another track, that i lose the “pages” on the edit plugin feature for all tracks in the song. The only way to get the 8 “pages” of plugin parameters again is to close and reopen the song.

Im properly sick of it now and cant understand why there arent more people speaking about this? The “Auto” mode for the edit plugins is hopeless on the FP8 as the paremeters are mapped so randomly it’s unusable, even on the S1 native plugins. The Fat Channel for example has Comp, Gate, EQ and Limiter controls all jumbled up across 2 pages.

Hmmph. Gutted

This is a good question!

PreSonus needs so much time (sometimes over years) to give the FP8/16 users new and better firmware updates for those great (SO) controllers.

The idea for those FP8/16 controllers a excellent. But to get those controllers in a professional way, this products needs much more firmware updates in less time.

Happy New Year to All
