Hi
Is there a way to change a setting so that every time you create a new track (instrument/audio/whatever), it loads up as -6.0dB instead of zero?
I'm finding im always having to pull faders down. Think it would save a bit of time.
thx

Channel faders around 0 dB give you the best overall control. Down at -6 you are getting less range of control there.

As far as I know there is no settings for creating new tracks at -6 dB. Unless you create a macro perhaps.

The real issue is the rms levels on your tracks eg audio events etc are too high. Maybe you should opt for having the track events not so loud so the faders can go back up to around 0 dB.

The Audio Batch Converter maybe the tool for this job.

If you are adding a track (@ 0dB) and hitting the red/clipping immediately or pulling faders - it's the incoming signal that is too hot.

Read up on gain staging (plenty of forum posts in here on it) - both for your audio interface AND when adding a virtual instrument.

Over here - if I add a new track @ 0.0dB (Guitar, piano etc)...and I start playing - the meters are always bouncing around between -18dBfs and maybe -12dBFS. Same for VI's.

You should never have even a single track in a session be even close to 0.0dBFS in a DAW. If all tracks are topping out at around -6dBFS (with all faders up) - it should be fine.
