I create a lot of snippets of music for films and short videos.

Some times I bring in a loop that has the right tone and maybe even the right feel for a tempo I'm working with. Then open that loop in melodyne and move the notes around to what I have written. So basically I get the tone of the loop that fit the style I want, but the actual loop of notes is totally different from the original loop.

I usually write the part via either a keyboard or the step editor, so my part generally starts out as midi notes. I can use a virtual instrument, but some times the loops offer a better sound than what I have available.

For small/short parts, opening the loop in melodyne and manually moving notes around to match what I have written isn't too difficult. But if it's a long part, it really gets tedious.

Just wondering if anyone has any clever ideas about how to make melodyne move blobs of an audio part around to follow a midi part? I have full melodyne studio, so have access to all it will do.

Thanks, gabo

I have no clue what Melodyne does - but I am thinking something that takes midi as input to tell pitch you want.

LIke this one

But if audio tracks can take midi input in StudioOne, is another matter.

When I looked for pitch correctors I think there is another from a company with name similar to german of valthaus or val something that also took midi.

Pardon if I suggest something melodyne does already....

Interesting concept. The technique for controlling Melodyne pitch with live MIDI input outlined in the below tutorial video might do the trick. I haven't tried it, but I'm thinking you could make this work by looping back your MIDI track via hardware or virtual MIDI cable to provide the real-time input that Melodyne needs to do this:

Wow Brundle... That's pretty much what I was going for. I'll have to do some playing with it and work to see if I can make it useful, but certainly the right direction.

That's what makes these forums so awesome, there's always someone smart enough to give some great tips!! THANKS..

I'll play with it and report back.

I was looking forward to checking this out myself, but it seems the whole feature of pitch editing by MIDI input was removed from Melodyne at some point!?. The video is from 2013, and you can see comments about there being no MIDI menu item in Melodyne 4. I only have Editor, but I checked the Studio Stand-alone manual as well, and there's no mention of any of this.

Too bad. Could have been a very useful feature.

Back to the drawing board...

I only have the free Melodyne that came with S4 (and I love it!) but I'm surprised that the full version can't do what you describe, especially as it has been a feature of Auto-Tune for as long as I can remember. Having said that, I have tried to do that stuff in Auto-Tune in the past and it was quite hard to get good results because the vocal timing never matches the midi timing so it all goes a bit "Cher" in places.

Yes, bummer. Just checked my standalone melodyne studio 4 and no midi menu anywhere.

That's wild that they would completely remove a feature, rarely ever see that in software.

Yes, back to the drawing board!!
