I have some recorded mono tracks that I am trying to pan in S1.3 and not having any luck. I'm using a StudioLive 16.0.2 mixer and recording to a track in mono. So far so good. Now when I try to pan left or right, I can pan one way and still get sound from both speakers, but when I pan the other way, all sound is gone from the track. I've checked Universal Control and everything is set to Center. and on the individual track it is set to Center on the record, so not sure what I'm missing here. Any thoughts?

Does that track go into a mono bus before going to (stereo) main out? A screen shot may help solving your problem.

Nothing is currently going to any buss. All outputs are to the Mains.
I'm trying to pan tracks 1 and 2 to opposite sides. When I pan either to
the left, volume and placement stays the same, with output at both speakers.
When I pan to the right, the volume goes to zero.
Here is a screenshot.

Looks like you have S1 main out going to 1 and 2 on the mixer? Do you have 1 and 2 on the mixer panned, and do you have both faders up?

Both 1 and 2 on the mixer are at unity and no panning

I would bypass the UC mixer and use S1 and the board itself for routing to keep it simple.

Thanks Matt. I'm not sure how to do that. I thought I was already setup to do that. I don't start UC when I open S1. I only opened it to view the mixer settings to see if they were different than what I'm seeing . Let me see if I can get a picture of the mixer settings. Sorry about the low quality of the image.

Update on my mono not panning situation. I was wondering if it was the StudioLive mixer with the issue, but after further testing with live inputs in mixer only, the pan is working in the mixer. I have loaded several other songs, some with only one mono track and I get the same problem with each song. For some reason the track will not pan to the right, and when it's panned to the left it is still actually center since audio comes from both sides. I'm beginning to wonder if the recent update did something internally in the program, but I've not heard of others having the issue. I also thought maybe it was my settings, but when I load the preset for the 16.0.2 I get the same problem without changing anything.

Another quick update. I think I may have a talkback issue from the computer to the mixer.
I loaded up Cubase (which I haven't used in ages) and recorded a mono track. On playback
I tried to pan left and right and had the exact same symptoms. Left had audio at both speakers
and right pan had no audio at all. Direct input into the StudioLive board allows for panning, so
Im wondering if it's a firewire connection issue? Gonna have to call Presonus and/or Sweetwater

From your description it seems to me that you are stereo panning a mono channel on a linked input. (stereo panning controls channel separation of a stereo channel where mono panning controls L/R position of a mono channel). My guess is that it is a setting either in S1 or in the mixer where mono and linked/stereo channel settings got mixed up.

Also, since you are using a 16.0.2 mixer, note that the main output from S1 per default returns to the mixer's firewire return buttons on main and on channels 1&2. And when you are using the 16.0.2 templates from S1 then return from S1 tracks 1&2 returns to the same firewire buttons on the mixer. In S1 you have to mute either the track returns or the main output return or signals will double up.

To find out where everything is going the meters, in S1 and on the mixer, are your friends. And check the output matrix in S1 to make sure that outputs from S1 to the mixer are configured correctly. And check the link/unlink settings on the mixer.

If you have any plugin in there that are mono, it won't work. Plugins normaly come in mono or stereo, and you could have made the mistake of selection the mono version of some of them. Delete the mono versions and make sure to select stereo versions.

Just had the same problem here and that was my problem.

Hope it helps, even if it's 2 yrs late! LOL

If it makes you feel better about being 2 years late... One year later and I'm here finding this answer...was banging my head against the wall and saw this and thought, "No way I have a mono plugin on my buss...could I have done something that dumb..." And yet... <facepalm>
