Hi all,

Every once in awhile a song will be a real bear for me to get the mix just right. ;)
Since I knew every bit of guitar and all the VI parts; getting them heard, balanced and spread around in the mix decently, seemed to take forever.

Let me know if you like it... or not...

Haste makes waste.... this mix sounds quite balanced and good on my system and headphones.
Thanks for posting this melancholic tune, good job.

Thanks for listening you two.
I was happy to read your favored replies. ;)

Over the next week or two, I'm going to learn about "Macro Controls" and "Impact", then it's onto crafting another song. 8-)

I like this, it has some really nice harmonies coming in and out and the sound is very clear and crisp. I think the title fits nicely too :)

I'm listening on headphones and a couple of things bothered me a little. The two main guitars are spread very wide and with their counter-melodies it sometimes sounds like two competing tunes. If it were me I'd bring them closer together. The piece as a whole also seemed to be very 'loud' .. the kick/bass were really thumping in my ears (that can be good or bad ;) )

Personal opinions though .. thanks for sharing!

You're not alone on that one jpsbuk. For first 2/3 of the mix process, I had them about 50% from center. But with everything else going on, I chose to spread them to 90% and vary the choir, synths and strings from 30-60% of which there are 2 tracks each. ;)
I agree it can sound 'uncomplimentary' at times but in the end I went with the sporadic dissonance and decided to be a bit different.

Also at the beginning, I had a subdued ambient kit but as the song morphed and grew, so did it's energy, so I changed to a standard 'rock' kit. :punk:

I like this a lot. There's so much going on, in a good way. I hear so many different elements, this is what crafting a song is all about. The song drew me in quite nicely. I had a pretty rough day today, and as I was listening, at around 2:14, it felt like a marching band came in and was leading me on to a better day. Great job.

Thank you commonchild.
That always means a lot to me (and I'm sure any musician) when my music makes other feels something.
You also craft some tasty items. I liked your recently posted "Reach The Peak".

Really good work, music-wise and mix-wise.
My most typical fare is rock songs, and usually I don't have guitars panned so wide, but I like how the wide guitars work in this context. I think you could pan them less, but I wouldn't say that you "need" to.
Everything seems very present and solid, but at the same time soothing. And it's really not easy to get that result- it still takes time, patience, and critical listening to accomplish. Good work!

Atari 5200, 64K RAM S1PRO Radio Shack Cassette Recorder w/internal Mic, and too many plugins.
