Recently I randomly get the Click here to verify you are human screen. I get it on all types of browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) and all devices Windows 7 & 10, Android, IOS. It happens randomly on all situations, like browsing the forum, or replying the forum. I always tick 'Remember Me' when login in on my devices, so this basically shouldn't be happening.

It's load management feature of the forum to balance load on the server.

Timeout of sessions is normally 1 hour. I bumped it to 8 hours, however that may have no effect. As this may be an issue with your ISP.

We're validating the first three sets of numbers in your IPv4 address. Think of your IP address as A,B,C,D, we are validating A,B,C, and if any of those change even mid-session, it will log you out.

Internet Service Providers (ISPs) provide internet services using DHCP (Dynamic Host Control Protocol) where IPs are handed out to clients (their modems) asking for access. Normal (average / standard / customary) lease time for your IP is 72 hours, they don't give you a static IP unless you get a business account (for more $$$), your ISP change your IP to another address more often and whenever it wants at it's own choosing.

Some ISP's use proxies which connect to the forum, instead of you direct. In such cases your IP will or can change mid session, and the forum software will then assume you are not the same person, but someone trying to break in via the session code (a security feature). The security feature because of that will require you to log in again.

If you have two ISPs a a session sits too long, a firewall session times out and it can switch to the other ISP. Your IP address switches to the other one, and phpBB makes you log back in.

With the increased session time this shouldn't be an issue, however check with your ISP and even check your Router / Internet Modem settings to see if there something else causing you to be logged out prematurely.

All well and good, but it's timing me out *every* time I try to take an action in the beta forum within seconds of each other! For example, recently trying to post with an attachment put me in an endless loop of verification, but it did not actually take me to the login page, just "Prove Your Human".

Given that this has just started when all was fine in the past with our existing ISPs and connections, I don't think the problem is on our end and should not be put on us to dig around in settings that have worked until now.

@AlexTinsley my main connection has a static IP and it happened there too. And even if I had a dynamic IP or switched to a VPN mid session, shouldn't the 'Remember me' cookie prevent me from being logged out?

It seems we are not alone btw.

Thanks for your support on this irksome issue! Alex's response reminds me of my IT days where software blames hardware and vice-versa. :-)

Same issue here. This "Verify you are human" message is incredibly annoying. It has always been annoying but I currently get it every time I submit or edit a posting. With Firefox. With Chrome. With Edge. And with Safari.

AlexTinsley wroteIt's load management feature of the forum to balance load on the server.

I don't know any other forum with that behaviour/feature.

We're now at least eight users with the exact same issue. I've got no login/session timeout problem in any other forum on this earth. I definitely won't check my ISP or check my Router / Internet Modem settings  :?

Argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just lost a large post because of this (and it's happened before - I should know better and paste it to the clipboard first before submitting. So today it's back with a vengeance.

This is absolutely a server side issue that needs to be fixed.
IMHO the forum software has anti spambot software that is not working correctly, and possibly cookie timeout issues as well.

I am running Chrome on Windows 10 all 64 bit.

Mmmmm...
Just had to 'verify you are human' yet again - perhaps mum's stories about her alien abduction weren't so imagined after all...

Seriously though, no noticeable improvement here yet!
