Hi
When I press down heavily on my keyboard I see the automation line go up and down in studio one automation lane so I'm getting aftertouch input fine . So far so good, then in Presence XT instrument, I right clicked the pitch Bend and connected it to knob one "Aftertouch". It's not working. Please see attached screenshot. Note the knob labelled "Aftertouch +" at the bottom of the screenshot responds to my keyboard fine. BTW I seem to be able to assign a dial on my controller just fine, no problem at all. The problem is aftertouch. (Tested on A300 keyboard and Atom). Thanks...

Windows 64 Confirmed issue on my side. Aftertouch assigned to Knob 1 that is assigned to Pitch Bend. Aftertouch does not affect Knob 1 but is should. If you manually move Knob 1, it does control the Pitch Bend wheel. I thinking this is a bug. |
I remember using polyphonic aftertouch as a trigger for the leslie effect on an organ voice on my Yamaha keyboard.
It was more of a switch than a slider. Is this just a Presence problem or any synth?

Bbd wroteConfirmed issue on my side.I doesn't work that way. When assigning the Aftertouch as a target to a Macro Knob you basically assign an automation parameter to the aftertouch MIDI (or equivalent in Studio One synths), nothing more. What the aftertouch should modulate, should be set in the synth. |
Thanks for that feedback Niles.
So can we setup aftertouch to control pitch in Presense? If so, how? |
Happens on any instrument.
Bbd wroteStudio One 4.1.2 To be absolutely clear... (EDITED). Aftertouch when used on my keyboard DOES effect knob 1 as it should, see my screenshot in the first post where knob1 is assigned to "Aftertouch" (at the bottom). That dial actually moves when I use aftertouch on my keyboard. The actual issue is assigning pitchbend to knob 1 (as explained in first post), it can be assigned but it does not actually work.

I tried it this way and could not get it to work sadly.
Thanks. (BTW I'm on very latest Studio One V4 patch).

When I assign Aftertouch as per the image that PreAI has attached it works perfectly for me. With every sound in Presence as well. You don't have to setup anything in the channel editor. Just assign it inside the synth.
Have you checked the midi filter settings in case you are filtering it out perhaps.

Just assign it inside the synth. See my previous post - I've already tried to do it the other way. Have you actually tried this recently? Specifically try assigning pitchbend with the latest version of studio one (Windows) using an atom or something. The test does not pass until you actually hear pitchbend with aftertouch via the controller, this specific case. Aftertouch will work, it will assign to the pitchbend wheel but the wheel won't work. Thanks.

ATOM behaves exactly the same way for me. If I press a note it plays and if I apply pressure the pitch bend works. It can only pitch bend in one direction using the internal settings within Presence.
I would be looking into why it does not work for you in Presence. No channel editor setup is required at all for this to work. You do have to set this up for each patch you may initially select in Presence.

To repeat what I've stated earlier it happens for other instruments and yes I've used both methods to assign aftertouch (see nile's post). I've also tried it with two different controllers (A300 and atom). No filters are on. NB If I assign a knob on my controller rather than aftertouch it works absolutely fine.

PreAl wroteI tried it this way and could not get it to work sadly. For the record. If ATOM's Aftertouch (Channel Pressure) is intercepted by Control Link, it can not reach the aftertouch of any synth from the Instrument track by default. So the answer I gave to Bbd is probably n/a to ATOM users that use the default ATOM settings in Studio One. |

I've been looking at control link, I just can't see what you mean here. I've tried to get this work with an ATOM and a Roland A300 keyboard, no joy. I guess I'm missing something.... Can somebody give me steps on how to do this from a new project? Or something... anything basically.. Otherwise I guess I'll create another ticket. Thanks and appreciated.

OK last go.
Here is a demo project to download, I have an ATOM controller set up but you could change it to some other controller that supports aftertouch. Press the Mod A button on Presense to see how I've set it up, and then see if aftertouch works for you. If you see anything missing let me know. Note for me, all MIDI filter tickboxes are clear in MIDI Monitor and the setup of the device. Aftertouch is being clearly displayed in the MIDI monitor and it seems to be indicated in the track if I look at the meter, but it won't work if I assign it to the instrument.

This works for me. The only thing I had to do was when I clicked on Mod A button I saw you had everything set up nicely but the the slider for the amount of Aftertouch that was being sent to pitch was centered meaning no after touch would be getting through. Move that slider to the right and all was fine.
When the slider is centered no after touch will get through. If you slide it to the left the aftertouch pitches down instead of up. ATOM also works for me too. Others may have to select their own controller as the input source though first.

It wasn't very apparent until I used the "pitch" settings then it hit me in the face. I was expecting however some of the controls to move on the Presence instrument itself. For instance if I set it to "filter - cutoff" the great big dial does not move whatsoever - I can hear it however. Not much fun! BTW I just got out Cakewalk's Z3TA+2 and Rapture Pro aftertouch works great on that and the controls (pots and faders etc) animate fine.
