I failed in applying ntempo dynamics to external devices, e.g. VST-Instruments or external MIDI sources.
Using Notion instruments, e.g. piano, everything works fine.
Even after supplying a specific rule for the external device.
Maybe I'm missing something.
Any hints or help is greatly appreciated.

nTempo modifies the MIDI stream, so it should work with no differences whether it's adjusting tempo for internal or vst instruments. No problems with it here.

Could you give some details about your setup? IOS, Dekstop, Mac, Win?

Have you submitted a help ticket? Presonus help for Notion is very responsive.

I'm not talking about adjusting the tempo, this works quite well, but about
adjusting the volume while playing live as called ntempo dynamics

These are my specs.
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB
Presonus Studiolive AR12
Windows 10 Pro 1803
Presonus Studio One 4
Notion 6
etc.

Sorry, I misunderstood. I found this in the User Guide which describes adjusting the nTempo Dynamics slider in MIDI I/O tab of Preferences:

3 . At NTempo Channel on the MIDI IO Tab, you specify which MIDI channel will be reserved for performing with NTempo features . All other channels enable the Live Play feature . If you are unsure how to switch MIDI send channels on your MIDI keyboard, ensure there’s a “1” in this drop-down list, as most MIDI instrument output defaults to Channel 1 . Now you will be able to perform scores but not use Live Play . When you want to switch to Live Play, select another channel (or None) .

4 . Unfortunately, MIDI keyboard manufacturers vary widely with respect to how they implement velocity . You can reset the NTempo dynamics slider if you get too little or too much variation in volume with changes in velocity on your particular keyboard model . With too low a setting (too far left), only score dynamics are read; velocity does not seem to affect the volume of sound you hear . With too high a setting (too far right), you produce more variation in dynamics than you intend or can control in a comforTable and natural manner .

Hope that helps?

Hi Michael,
thank you very much for your answer.
I've already read the manual and tried to fix it for myself before submitting my message.
But I didn't succeed. May I ask you to try to reproduce this behaviour?
I appreciate your assistance and support.

I have a same problem - it seems that ntempo dynamics works only for internal Notion instruments, but not with external instruments via MIDI.. Is it normal or it is a bug?

Hi,

Nothing from an Ntempo staff is exported externally via MIDI. It may seem like the tempo is exported, but it is actually the tempo of the external MIDI staves that are controlling your external tempo. This also applies to dynamics.

External MIDI staves will export their dynamics if you use dynamic markings as well as hairpins. If you want control over CCs and such, your external MIDI staves have to be created as sequence staves. You can then record MIDI CCs on the staff directly using live recording and an external MIDI controller.

If you convert a sequence staff to notation, you will lose all of your MIDI CCs that you recorded.
