I'm looking for a 25 keyer that works well with Studio One 4. Only looking for input from people who have actually used the particular controller they are recommending with Studio One 4. Thanks!

You can't go wrong with the AKAI MPK25.

I use the 49 key version. ;)

You said "Mini MIDI controller keyboard". I recommend the Korg NanoKey 2. It fits in a backpack and is really easy to use. I use it and like it a lot, but the keys take some getting used to as they're more like the percussion pads you get on larger keyboards than regular keys. Probably a good idea to find a store with some in stock and try it out before buying.

I use Korg microKey 37 (wired) as my main keyboard with nanoKontrol2 as Mackie controller (Transport and Mixer). I use them much more than my nektar P4 and my Casio PX-5S because they are easy to place and I like playing with the microKey keys. The feel good as mini keys, not stiff as the Akai ones (I had mini MPK years ago).

The 25 version (new one) has a joystick and Arpeggiator while the 37 one has Pitch/Mod wheels only. There are also wireless version (bluetooth) but they cost more than the wired (usb) ones.

Let me preface this by saying I'm a guitarist, not a keyboard player. I have been using the Akai LPK-25 for a few years now and it suits my needs perfectly. I just wanted something to try chords or preview patches without having to use my MIDI guitar. The keys are not standard size but are touch sensitive. The size is what sold me since I had limited space. There are other features that I have to admit I never use.

Peace!

Dan

I would say to try the CME Xkey 25-key USB controller at $99, it's able to fit in a laptop bag, and has standard width keys - no mini or slim keys. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail ... controller

It's only about as wide as a standard PC keyboard and fits nicely in the space in front of your monitor. I have several larger keyboard controllers, but was looking for something portable to use with a laptop when traveling. This fits the bill nicely!

I tried the Akai MPK Mini MkII and returned it within a few days. The mini keys just did not agree with me.

I have the Edirol PCR-800. While it is discontinued, it was replaced by the Roland A-800Pro (and 500 and 300) models which are very similar with slightly different layouts to where the pads and whatnot are. I have used the knobs, sliders, transport buttons, etc with S1 and they work well, don't have difficulties being recognized, etc.

the only thing that some might not like is that the pitchbend lever is a lever and it is horizontal and the mod "wheel" is a spring loaded vertical press on the same lever. I actually like it except that the mod wheel cannot be put in a position and stay there. Since I don't ever have a need for that anyway, and there are plenty of other controllers on the thing that stay put anyway, I like it just fine how it is.

The A-300Pro is here: https://www.roland.com/global/products/a-300pro/ and can be had from Sweetwater for $229, here: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail ... controller

I own the A300, and I will say that is definitely not a mini controller. The OP was seeking feedback on a mini (see subject line).

The A300 is a well built, fine controller, but is what ultimately set me on the search for a smaller controller that would fit in my laptop bag. Unfortunately the A300 is about two feet wide and weighs almost 7 lbs!

I read mini as "not 5 octaves" and paid attention to the only spec, ehi h was number of keys, not portability or weight or whatever. I like my 5 octaves but I can see the use of a 25-32 key piece being useful in a smaller space on my desk.

Yet, I have no need for something to stick in a backpack or laptop bag.

What say you, OP?

I would suggest you head to a music store that has several in stock and just play around on them and see what you can live with and what fits your budget. Not all of them have the same "feel" and it's kind of a personal thing, just like with guitar necks. They will all do your basic midi functions and some will do more if you think you need/want the extra knobs, sliders and pads. If 49 keys works in your space and budget I'd recommend that as a bare-minimum, but if you are only going to play with one hand then 25 won't be a major hang-up though.

The nanoKEY2 suggested is a great choice.I also use a KORG Taktile 25-key,have a Roland A-49, but as far as mini-controller that always works and is easy to carry around, takes up little space,etc...the nanoKONTROL2 works perfectly. Plus it's inexpensive, works well in S1, and also comes with some awesome freebies.
