From what I've been able to gather searching the forums, it doesn't look like S1 supports poly after-touch. Am I wrong in this assumption? If so has anyone heard if the developers plan on implementing it in the future?
With the Vax Midi being released this month we finally will have a new controller with poly after-touch. Just my opinion but keyboard Manufacture's have for to long overlooked this. The old Kurzweil Midiboard was fantastic in implementing this. I always felt it was the most expressive controller up to now. Thanks for any input. |
Does this help?

Larry Schaeffer wroteFrom what I've been able to gather searching the forums, it doesn't look like S1 supports poly after-touch. Am I wrong in this assumption? It's a bit more nuanced, but you are basically right. Studio One does recognize Polyphonic Key Pressure messages, however it isn't able to record those on Instrument tracks. In other words you can use Polyphonic Key Pressure to play instruments that support it, but you can not record it as musical data to reproduce it within Studio One. Currently Polyphonic Key Pressure messages can be merely used withing Control Surface configurations. There where numerous feature requests in the past, one of those can be voted on here: Will Studio One support polyphonic aftertouch? For the future you could ask yourself if the support of Polyphonic Key Pressure messages shouldn't be incorporated in MPE (Multi Polyphonic Expression) messaging. MPE was initiated by a group of developers (among those: Apple, Linn, Moog, Bitwig, McMillen, Roli, Haken & Madrona) which will probably bring the concept of Polyphonic Key Pressure to a much higher level. If PreSonus will adapt MPE is impossible to say. |
Thanks for the link, niles! Voted!
Thanks also for the MPE pointer. Never heard of it before. In addition to that approach, I hope that more manufacturers will support CopperLan which is available NOW and comes with high-resolution, bidirectional control out of the box. CopperLan is not only great for controlling (sound) parameters but also for musical data like notes/pitch and expression. Speaking of the VAXMIDI, I wonder if Studio One can handle 14-bit velocity...?

Just bumping this feature request for V4:
https://answers.presonus.com/5701/will- ... 5701#q5701 Simply amazed that a serious DAW has this missing, also amazed that there is only 146 votes on it. I notice out there in internetland people talk about sticking or moving to cubase because of this.

I noticed these pricey midi controllers use polyphonic aftertouch.
