Thought I'd post this in case anyone was wondering whether this was workable.

I picked up a 43" Hisense from Costco ($390 CDN). This set lets you turn off all the TV signal processing crap, leaving you with a simple monitor.

It works great. Image is razor sharp, the screen is large enough that the plugins display at a good size (don't have to rescale them), and having all that space is fantastic.

Here's a reduced res picture that doesn't do it justice.

4K Studio One low res.jpg

Unfortunately, it will have to go back. My 7 yr old computer needed a video card upgrade, and the addition of the new card has caused not easily correctable latency issues (I do know what I'm doing here). I'm sure they're solvable, but it will have me spending more money and time that I don't have at the moment. I'll be replacing the computer within the year, and will get the TV then.

I've been using a 43" 4K Vizio for a couple of years now. Love it.

I also chose the size to avoid scaling.

I have a 45" cheap TV, I think it was less than $200, works great for me.

So, it's not the elusive Windows Aero issue is it? That one caught a lot of us off guard. :-)

Not likely. It's been stable for the last 5 years.

But, it looks like I'll have to solve the problem after all.

I put back my system to its original configuration. All cards back to their original slots, and back to the system restore point I set prior to putting the video card. And I have exactly the same problem that I had when I installed the new video card. Arrghhh...

Time to dive in with a can of contact cleaner.

I use a Samsung 40" Smart TV with resolution @ 3840 x 2160 with Windows on 150 scaling.
I sit about 2.5' from it and it is a beautiful experience.

You will need a decent graphics card to drive it.
For mine, it was at least 4K HDMI 2.0 that could to 60 hz
Nvidia Geforce 960.

I’ve been using a 32” Flatscreen as a Monitor mounted on my wall for a while. I love it and would never go back. Just recently my wife upgraded our bedroom TV so yup guess who inherited the old one. It’s another Flatscreen even bigger (not sure what size). Yikes! This one is just ridiculous.
I love working this way. The extra real estate helps so much.

Have to disagree with this statement. I am using a 40' Samsung and I am connected to the onboard graphics display in the processor. Image is fast, beautiful and rock solid.

Not to mention the removal of heat, noise and other nonsense of having a dedicated card jammed into the DAW.

We use the onboard chip for all machines here save for one gaming machine that my son uses. Have never really understood users misconceptions about needing an overpriced graphics card.for a DAW.

Wow... a 40ft screen, how close are you sitting to it?

Windows 10 Pro/i7 6800k @3.4Ghz/16Gb ram. Studio One 6 Pro, Melodyne Editor, Vocalign Project 5, Superior Drummer 3, Izotope Music Production Suite 6, Komplete 13 and various other plugins. Focusrite Saffire Pro 40, Faderport, Focal Alpha 50's, Korg Pa3x, Korg Pad Kontrol, numerous guitars, basses & other antiquated outboard gear.
Maybe one day I'll actually finish a project!

I was thinking about getting a better video card.

I would think it would improve motion display etc.

Also there's some video software I was thinking about that requires fancy card.

Always got the cheapest thing that can get the job done which has worked fine for my audio production.

Also thinking about making video of the screen that it would help.

To get the real 4k HDPI high resolution experience you HAVE to scale to exactly 200%!
Anything else may have issues, by mathematical nature.

When I see the "issue videos", and then I read the very odd scaling values, then I know where it comes from. Not surprising.

yeah makes sense, but anyways would it be nice if any scale mode beside 200% would work, or another way to make the fonts bigger in studio one. 100 % is quite small on my 24" Screen, not anyone still got eagle eyes or want to wear glasses. 120 or even 115% is best readable for my eyes and I am sure there are other guys out there with less perfect sight like me or/and don't have the funds to get a bigger screen yet

I just replaced my two-monitor setup (stacked, not side-by-side) with a 40" 4k Visio V-Series TV. I have it set to 125% scaling and I am LOVING it. There is some slight scaling issue, but only as a slight discoloration in white fonts. Otherwise, obviously some plugins have not upped their game to high DPI GUIs (WAVES!!!) but this setup is so much better for me.

The reason I bought this Visio model is because C|Net did a review of 4k TVs that actually work decently well as a PC monitor and this one came in with pretty decent scores without spending a ton of money.
