Originally arranged this years ago just to see what it would sound like for strings. This is using the most recent Notion (6.4) and EWQL Symphonic Orchestra. I still want more expressiveness, but for a mock-up using just score markings and no over-dub CC curves, it's really not too bad. This was also my first attempt at a screen capture using OBS Studio.

It could use some further hand-tweaking of dynamics, but I've gotta say, it sounds pretty decent with minimal work...

As our friend Surfwhammy would say "lots of FUN!"

Very nice!

BTW, I do screen recordings using Quicktime, with Soundflower for audio capture. Seems to work OK, any advantages to your program?

Thanks!

Well, this was actually recorded on a PC, so no QuickTime there. What I did notice was that the audio was awful (probably my noob mistake, not setting the audio options correctly). I simply did an audio mix down and combined the two, that seemed to work fine. After the fact, I do think I got a bit over-zealous with the reverb, too.

I may try one of my old tricks with this file - several years ago I used to use two different string libraries and detune them from each other by a cent or so... it really made the sound very rich.... you simply have to remember to make the volume A bit lower.

It's a beautiful piece - I have heard many renditions on very diverse instrumentations, including a five piece mellow rock band! It is music that has the power to reach and touch us on so many levels.

In terms of suggestions, I think it begs for more dynamics... it is a very emotional piece and would benefit from a wider variation from quiet passages to more intense one. This is not currently very easy to achieve in Notion.
I also think the melody line should be given more prominence from the backing.

Another suggestion would be to vary the orchestration a little - maybe some pizz in the basses, a few pedal notes, and more open orchestration in places.

Lots of fun, thank you for sharing!
