Hi.
Thinking about using S1 to score a short 10 minute video. However, no matter the zoom level or snap settings, I can't seem to get S1 to advance 1 frame at a time using the 'transport forward' key command (Numpad '+'). The smallest increment I can manage is 8 frames at a time using the shuttlepro (which simply sends the key commands). I can navigate to a frame manually by clicking in the timeline, but this is much less efficient than scrolling there via my shuttlepro. In Logic or Cubase advancing a single frame via key command or with the shuttlepro (preferred method) works like a charm. Any suggestions? I'd really like to give S1 a try in this context. Thanks in Advance for any suggestions.

Copied below for convenience. Bbd wroteHave you tried clicking in the sub frame field of the counter and then using your up/down arrow keys? Excellent suggestion! That works and is a much better work around than holding the mouse down and attempting to scroll through the frames. Until they provide proper support, this will have to do! Thank you.

Bbd actually means click on the 'Frame' window and adjust using up/down arrows. There are no actual sub frames visible in Studio One. A single frame is divided into 80 subframes. (Talk about fine resolution!)
It is not a bad workaround. That frame window does have to be in focus though. The second something else is in focus, the up/down arrows will do something else.

You can move the play cursor forward or back one frame at a time with macros. Set the timebase to frames and run this macro ... - Create Range from Cursor - Move Range - Locate Selection - Deselect All Change the second step to Move Range Back to go in the other direction. |

I pretty sure that's been posted here on the forum here somewhere a couple of times before. It's a good alternate way to move the play cursor around in general, using ranges much like clips, creating them and moving them around and then locating to them, so that approach is useful in some other scenarios. |

Another quick question: Are we able to lock tracks/events yet ... another term used is "lock to SMPTE". There is a workaround here: http://forumsarchive.presonus.com/posts/list/42065.page This was posted 4 years ago and I wonder if things have progressed. I ask because I want some things locked to the movie and smpte position regardless of tempo changes. Hope that makes sense. Thank you. George

If you mean a clip at 0:05:30 or whatever staying at that time position even if you change the tempo, yes, set the track to "Don't Follow" in the Inspector.
It's a track level setting though, not a clip level setting. All the clips on the track will do that or not, there's no way I know of to make clip A do that while clip B on the same track doesn't. Follow = Follow the timeline position (stay at Bar 2 or whatever as the tempo changes, but don't stretch) Don't Follow = Hold Current Time Position (time-wise, of course the bar position will change if the tempo changes but it will still be at the same literal time position in hours:minutes:seconds frames, samples ) Stretch = Stretch to match tempo. |

I had started the project a few days ago in Logic, but I have the luxury of a little extra time on this one so it's a great opportunity to learn by doing. Thanks again.

However, I think they have made a change since you suggested this...perhaps we have sub-frames now? I say that because this macro now advances the video veeeerrrryyyy slowly. Lots of spins of the shuttler jog dial now to advance a single frame. Just wondering if you find this to be the case also. Would the fix be to modify the macro to execute the second command multiple times, or is there something to do in the first step (range creation). I hope this makes sense. Cheers man! G

You are correct. On Shuttle pro I used the run macro command and repeated the keystroke 34 times! Now it works. |
