The BS is that you cannot even use it as stand-alone unit for live mixing. You still need the VSL to run it, even if you are not recording any audio.

So the rule of thumb on these units, don't upgrade OS or Drivers, or you're f#&%d.

Just a bit of a update.
I decided to try tech support one final time (they have always been great, just fighting a losing battle with this unit).
Strange, he wanted me to try installing the VLS drivers again just to check if the unit needed a firmware update.
Installed the drivers but the VLS software won't start.
Here is the weird part - so far (WITH the VLS drivers installed) the unit is running perfectly.
Record 8 tracks? No problem, no clicks, no noise.
I am disappointed that my voice still sucks even through this unit, but I guess there is no magic fix for that?

Anyway - I am running a very pared down system with:
1. Only one monitor vs two.
2. No external hard drive.
3. No external midi devices hooked up.

Later I will try reintroducing items one at a time and see if it breaks.

I will update this in the next couple days with the results.

The stars have somehow aligned again.
Everything is hooked back up and for whatever strange reason things seem solid.
record 7 tracks of audio, 1 track of midi - no clicks or pops.
Both monitors hooked up and using my external hard drive with NI Komplete.

I still can't sing in key for some reason, perhaps the next update?

Good to hear it has worked for you. Just don't touch anything! Don't change it! LOL

I even went ahead and purchased a PCI USB 2.0 card (Though my PC has millions of USB ports!). Still no difference for me.

For what it's worth, still working.

One additional piece of info, the VSL drivers are "half" installed.

They installed but did not "register" themselves for whatever reason.
We were only installing them to check the version of the bios then were going to uninstall them.
But when everything started working I don't want to change a thing!

But as far as recording so far not one pop or click. Logged about 10 hours of recording so far.

Interesting.

Hello!

It seems I found a solution for my pops and clicks problem since the firmware and driver updates. My problemes similar to the ones you have.
A year ago I gave up and my 44VSL was only catching dust, But I really want to record some things again and I insisted that I would get it to work.

So I started reading everything on the internet about this, In the mean time I got a new laptop, Windows 10, USB 3.0 and a 44VSL that was not compatible with USB 3.0 old drivers.

(I used windows 7 and USB 2.0 on a another laptop when everything got messed up)

SInce then I tried to get the 44VSL work on my new VAIO Laptop, it didn't work the very same issues, until today, when after the long reading on the internet, I found out that maybe if I updated my USB 3.0 drivers I got a small change to get it working again without the pops/clicks issues. Maybe you tried this already but this is what worked for me maybe for you to.

This is what I did:

1. Uninstalled AUDIOBOX Driver
2. Restarted my PC
3. Update drivers USB 3.0
4. Restarted PC
5. Installed AUDIOBOX Driver
6. Still pops/clicks but not similar as before
7. Uninstalled AUDIOBOX drivers
8. Restarted PC
9. Installed AUDIOBOX drivers
10. Restarted PC
11 Problems gone

Hi,

I want to share. Something tha happened to me.

I have a pc with i5 2300 with 8 go , win 10 64b pro and a amd 7850. My audio card is a 44vsl.
Everything run as expected, drivers at last version, everything updated.

Then 3 days ago the graphic cars turn off and died. Force me use the IGP from the processor, an old intel hd graphic.

So i updated the drivers from windws update and reboot. I have work to do so i expected no problem from this change.

But no, from this point everything is juste pop and click, total mayhem.... i try everything, change usb port (usb2 and 3) change buffer size, change the latency in bios from the motherboard...

The only solution i found is use my Zoom F8 in audiocard mode ! ( and no problem from it...)

I just dont understand why the presonus driver can be so out of sync ... is this happened to other ? Did pop and click happen only on system with IGP active (mac an pc) ?

None of the crap that's being posted as solutions works - NONE OF IT! I've been to every forum and done extensive searches trying to find an answer - have made every change suggested, and it still is popping (usually two intermittent pops consecutively), then stops recording.

Hey Presonus - tell the truth: It's your freakin' updates that has caused this problem for everybody. The initial Studio One Artist I bought worked great for two years - then when it started screwing up, Presonus tech support said I had to update to 2.3 or 2.6, and since that time it's been a total, complete unusable crap program that wastes tons of your time trying to get it to work.

I'm ditching this and looking for another recording program. That's really the only solution there is - there's not a fix for this problem anywhere that I've found.

Are you sure the Pops'n'clicks ate from Studio One? Normally Pops' and click noise are from the audio interface and not the software.
You might want to try another DAW (demo) and check to see if the problem goes away or still exist.

hi again, i recently expose my pop and click problem just above and i finaly cam e to a good solution.

first i was just thinking add a new graphic card and resume my pc to the state before the incident. but unfortunatly after installing new graphic card the pop and click continues.

i decide to update the driver to universal 1.81 (the last one). and no luck.
i uninstall them reboot then reinstall 1.80 still no luck.
i uninstall them , reboot and install the 1.3 vsl ... still no luck.

at this point i try everything like try every usb port and even change the usb cable. still pop and click.

finaly i look at the peripheral management (i dont know how to call it in english)
and i activate the hidden peripheral and i see a lot of presonus audio cards ( and line 1/2 line 3/4) lots of presonus 44vsl. etc.
i uninstall the driver then i decide to uninstall all of them and remove drivers when possible...

then reboot, fresh install of the latest 1.81 et voila my vsl44 work again with no click !

so i think the install process and unistall process must be incorrect in some way. everytime i change the usb port or update the driver with a newer one soething goes wrong ...

so i recommend to uninstall the driver, then unmask the hidden peripherals in the peripheral management and remove all presonus entries, then reboot and reinstall the driver.

then never change the usb selected to plug your device.

I had the same issue with my 44vsl unit. When I removed the 1.3 version of the audiobox :D software and installed the oldest 1.1 version the problem disappeared.

Damn, I've been having similar problems with the Studio 192. Been working with support for the last week or so, tried everything and then some, but pops and crackles remain, intermittent on Win 10 64 Asus Z170-AR 4ghz 32 gig DDR4 Ram i7. I had such high hopes for the 192 but after reading through this thread I'm off to grab a Focasrite . I have 2 DP88's as well so I hope the will be ok with the Focasrite.

Damn shame Presonus, this unit could have been the one that really put you guys on the map. And also the lastest release of Studio One 3.3.3 is full of bugs, major one being that when recording with "Tape Style" off and monitor off we get no metering on the track until record is disabled?..It's just all getting too much...sigh.....:(

I believe that I've fixed my problems with recording/playback pops and clicks. New computer, new install of the Universal Control 2.8.0.48221 on Windows 10.

I couldn't listen to audio, AND use the computer. It was bad.

My problem was with my antivirus software. I added the file path to the driver to my exception list and the problem went away (without rebooting in my case, YMMV).

There are tons of different AV, anti-malware and advanced endpoint protection software on the market today. I can't tell you how to specifically add an exception for your software, only that you should probably pursue adding an exception for your particular software.

If you decide to disable or remove your AV solution in order to test, I highly recommend that you turn it back on or find a solution that works with the PreSonus driver/software.

And THAT is so often the problem. To many users buy cheap off the shelf laptops and then try and use them for anything and everything. If you are serious about recording and you want a Digital Audio Workstation that actually WORKS then you should REALLY consider dedicating a pc to that purpose and that purpose ONLY. I use my main DAW for that and nothing else. I also never let it anywhere near the internet unless I absolutely need to update something. If you want to browse the interwebs, check your e-mail and download porn and pirated software.....get an iPad.

That being said we can help you better now and in the future with a bit more info......if you will post your system specs in your signature, (see my sig), we will be better able to troubleshoot your problems. Without knowing what type of pc you're running, what OS you're using, what DAW etc....we often can't recommend a "simple fix"

If you have not already done so please READ THE MANUAL!

I posted in this thread some three and a half years ago, unhappy with the performance of my 44VSL. While 3.5 years is a long time to have an interface and not use it, my old Mbox 3 Mini I had previous to the 44VSL kept on plugging for me. Until recently.

I was doing research on a new interface when I discovered the UC software and drivers had been updated at the end of October by Presonus, so, on a whim, I decided to plug it in the dusty VSL and check the new stuff.

I can now run the 44VSL at buffer of 16 (44.1/32 bit depth) in StudioOne 3 for a DAW-reported RTL of 4.35 ms. No pops, no clicks, no jitters. A 32 buffer still yields 5.44 ms, so I'll probably leave it there just to be safe. I played a few sessions, messed with recording a guitar part; everything smooth and lightning fast.

It did take a (long) while, but thanks are due to whomever rewrote whatever fixed this problem (at least for me).

I just wanted to return to this thread and report a positive outcome, since I reported a negative one years ago. :+1
