Greetings,
One of the engineers at my club is reporting that activating a compressor causes distortion on a channel. This happens on every channel on the board. Has anybody experienced this problem, and if so, what's the solution? Best, Jack |

Many compressors, analog AND digital exhibit this behavior when using extreme settings. Here is s link to a discussion of this very topic:

I've already submitted a ticket, and I'm going to check the board myself tonight to see if I can replicate the problem. The engineer who reported it to me is very experienced mixing in the digital domain, so I doubt he was setting the comps incorrectly. My concern is he was doing a roundtable type of gig for singer songwriters. He had 7 DI'd acoustics, and all of the DI channels had distortion. He claims the same thing was occurring with the vocal channels as well. |

Also check and see if the input channels are being over driven... by that I mean that about mid scale (-16 )or slightly over (-18) results in the best sound... the problem is, the buss is likely being overdriven by the summing of all the channels.
