You find the firmware versions in your PreSonus account. Anything you need can be found on the download page: http://www.presonus.com/support/downloads/StudioLive-1642AI.

If you want to use FireWire, DO NOT UPDATE TO THE LATEST & GREATEST, because of a phenomenon called "FireWire lag", which makes UC Surface on a computer simply unusable. The visualization is too slow and makes any control impossible. But you can use UC 2.5.x on an iPad. Both UC versions work perfect together. Go for this:

AI Console Firmware v9194

Universal Control/UC Surface UC 1.8 (Mac/PC) 1.8.0.38751
Capture (Mac/PC) 2.3.6.45951 (can also be 2.2.1.38751)

UC Surface (iOS/Android) - 2.5.2.45951

I can't seem to install the drivers inside Universal Control/UC Surface UC 1.8 (Mac/PC) 1.8.0.38751
on Windows 10 x64 Home. Something about driver signing requirements. Any suggestions?

Try installing Windows update KB3033929x64.
I ran into what is probably the same issue with a previous UC version (Driver signing denial)
and tracked the fix down to this update. If it doesn't help, just uninstall it or leave it. It won't hurt anything.
