For the benefit of a sound guy who uses them this way, please explain, in detail, WHY "D" (digital) buttons are not to be used as a "backup mute" to the mute or instead of the mute buttons. This is a new church I am with and the sound guy calls the Digital buttons "DEFEAT" buttons...because it
defeats the sound". I tried to explain that the D means "digital" and you don't use them unless you are playing back through Capture. Thanks for the help. Please be professional as I will be showing him the "official" answer. |

http://www.presonus.com/support/downloads/StudioLive-2442AI http://www.presonus.com/support/downloads/StudioLive-1642AI I would recommend the download of the "StudioLive AI-Series Owner's Manual". In chapter 4.3.1 is explained, what the "Digital Return Button" does (giving access to FireWire signals). Actually this information would need an update. Since the introduction of network technology to PreSonus AI mixers the Digital Return Button also handles connections e.g. to a "digital stagebox" (RMAI16 or RM32AI via AVB) or to a Dante network. In fact the button mutes the analog input signals of your mixer, so it does "defeat the sound" (as long as there is no digital signal coming in through FireWire or network)... |
Correct, for recording with Capture you don't need the Digital Return Buttons, only if you "return" (play back) the tracks to the board.
By the way: If you are using the latest firmware and software(s), which is always recommended, the "digital" button in Capture makes the software communicate with your mixer. You don't need to type any channel/track names any more... |
