Hello. Will io24 be able to work with the beyerdynamic dt 770 pro 250 ohm?
|
Hi and welcome to this forum
Yes, according to the specs of the io24 (Impedance Working Range 32Ω to 300Ω) Maybe, looking at the DT-770 specs (impedance 250Ω, sensitivity 96dB SPL/mW) and depending on your SPL requirements. With a 250Ω load you'll get about 24mW max from the io24, so that will give you 96 + 10*log24 = 110dB SPL tops from that DT-770. With the 80Ω version that would have been 2dB more. Not the most sensitive phones, those DT-770s. |
SwitchBack wroteHi and welcome to this forum Yeah, but the sound quality is excellent. I have two pairs of the 250 ohm 770s for recording and one pair of the 880s for mixing and general listening. The headphone amps on my 1810c drive them easily. I get very good volume at about 50% of full scale. I haven't tried running them at 100%. Still like to have my hearing! |

SwitchBack wroteHi and welcome to this forum I have no clue, how you calculate that but I am impressed. The IO24 has 40 mW/Kanal @ 56Ω max at headphone out. How you calc the 24mV? I think about buying a second interface one has 77 mW @ 16 Ohm the other one has only this information: Max output level 6 dBV for headphone I use the DT 990pro with same specs as the DT-770 An alternative would be using my iFi ZEN DAC/AMP combo for my headphones but I can´t connect it to the IO24. As always none is really near to be perfect |
To be honest there’s one assumption in the calculations, which is that manufacturers will specify their products in the most positive way they legitimately can. Power transfer from a headphone output is highest when the load impedance (i.e. the impedance of the phones) equals the output impedance of the output. So when output power is specified at X Ohms it is fair to assume it's because the internal impedance of the output is (close to) X Ohms too.
Under that assumption you can calculate the maximum open load output voltage of the output, the power that voltage can deliver into the internal impedance/headphone impedance voltage divider, and how much of that power will be in the headphones. The 10*log(power in mW/1mW) formula then gives you the decibels to add to or subtract from the headphone’s sensitivity rating (in dB SPL/mW) for the maximum output level (in dB SPL) from the phones. For the 990 on that first interface it’s 17.4mW max and 96 + 10*log(17.4) = 108.4dB SPL max respectively. For the second interface the open load output voltage is given (6dBV = 2 Volts) but not the impedance. So there’s not enough information to calculate power to the phones.

Thank you.
The first interface is the Elgato Wave XLR. It is less powerfull then, The biggist plus is it can use VST plugins. The second one is the Lewitt Connect 6, the plus there is full dual PC streaming setup possible due to 2 usb connection. So as I thougt i stay with my IO24 for streaming and use my iFi DAC/AMP for music and fps gaming if needed. It is unbeatable for the price |
