It is stated that for the motorized fader to work, this device needs to be connected with a power adapter. So can it be used without a power adapter as well? Will the fader still work in Studio as a regular, manually controlled fader with soft pick-up?

Where did you see that information stated?

I have one of these and it won't power on without the external power supply adapter.

Maybe stating the obvious but it doesn't have to be an adapter per se, it can be a battery too. 12V power tool batteries are compact and can have quite a bit of stamina too :)

Thanks for the info! I probably saw the power specifications for the Faderport V2 somewhere and erroneously assumed the ioStation would work the same way.

That's a good suggestion but I'm looking to make my setup both more mobile and more lean. This would preferably not include an extra battery pack :)
