There is a thread in the Studio One Community forum where a user is asking for some help using with Studio One.
If you have the time and haven't seen it already --- viewtopic.php?f=151&t=33184&p=192284#p192284 |
According to the discussion I will try to answer some of the questions.
PART 1 1) The manual. It contains nice pictures. But some things are described inaccurately. 2) Impact XT Pad Focus and ATOM Focus Mode These two things sound the same. But they are different! 3) Understanding Impact XT Pad Focus. Because of the pads [16x8], the Impact XT needs an extra "Focus level". When working with Control Link and Pads, you have two options: a) Global pad mode and b) Pad Focus mode The next two pictures will show how this works: First: Pad Focus and global mode vs. Focus mode: A closer look how Control Link handles the pad focus modes There is a last picture from within Studio One: End of part 1 Gottfried |
According to the discussion I will try to answer some of the questions.
PART 2 1) Impact XT Pad Focus = ON When you turn ON the Pad Focus of Impact XT, than the pads will always change the focus when you hit a pad. Regardless if you hit a pad with ATOM or when you play a key on your keyboard. Note: When using the mouse, the pad focus is immediatly changed, regardless of the the Pad Focus setting. 2) Impact XT Pad Focus = OFF Here things are different. When you play a key or when you hit a pad with ATOM, the pad focus remains. The focus is not changed. 3) The two options with ATOM when Impact Pad Focus = OFF ATOM offers a special feature when Pad Focus = OFF: The "Focus Mode" Blue: The pads will not change the focus, the current focus remains Green: The focus is changed to the new pad, It's the same as if you use the mouse. Table matrix when using Pad Focus and Focus Mode Here is a diagram which shows the different condititions and how it should work. First Conclusion Pad Focus Mode vs. Focus Mode Impact Pad Focus and ATOM Focus mode are different in some ways. Therefore, it makes no sense to sync ATOM Focus Mode with Impact Pad Focus (For example:If you switch this mode on, then the other button should be flashing) I hope this post is helpful. According to the discussion I will try to answer some of the questions.
PART 3 - The Pattern Editor I made 3 diagrams which shows the use of the Pattern-Editor with ATOM The pictures are self-explanatory. But there are some important things: a) There are two main modes in Pattern Editor: - Edit-Mode (Edit patterns) - Play-Mode (Play Samples with the pads) - Use the "Editor" button to switch between this two modes - Studio One will show a step bar when Edit-Mode is active (at the bottom of the step numbers) b) The ATOM "Focus Mode" will work exact in the same way as explained before (PART 2) c) The ATOM "Focus Mode" is only usable in Play-Mode d) You can call Impact XT with "Show/Hide" (Both modes) e) You can shift the lane by one step to the left or right (Edit-Mode: Nudge Left/Right) f) In Play Mode use Left/Right buttons to go through the variations (Play mode: Left/Right) Overview of the Pattern-Editor with ATOM: Create Patterns with ATOM: ATOM Commands for the Pattern Editor: [EDIT: Error correction on picture 3] [EDIT: Added: Move Lanes left/right command in picture 3 ] [EDIT: Forgot the Nudge button in commands] Gottfried |
