Make Atom go dark?

Is there a way to make the Atom go dark? There is no on/off switch and if you leave your computer on 24/7 and use it for other things (non DAW activities) the lights can be annoying. The Atom doesn't have a significant power drain on the USB buss, about 1.5 watts, so being on all the time isn't a big deal; however, having the lights on all the time is a big deal. The Atom needs a hibernate mode.

Thanks,

Patrick

From the manual:

To adjust the brightness of the LEDs on your ATOM, press the Bank button while Advanced Setup mode is active. This will allows you to advance through the three brightness options available.

Not ideal I guess in your case as you have to do this each time you either want to use it or hibernate it. Good point though because mine has not arrived yet and I am wondering about that too while it is not being used.

Unfortunately, the brightness option is not a good solution. There needs to be an all off option, especially for night.

For example, Shift-Setup (Song Setup button) to enable hibernate or go dark.

Just out of interest how is the lowest setting compared to the brightest setting?

The most dimming is from 1st to 2nd setting and a faint more to 3rd. The 3rd setting will definitely illuminate a dark room; especially with 16 pads illuminated. I'd say the brightness of the 3rd setting is about the same luminosity of the power button on the Studio 192 (maybe a little brighter).

Thanks for that. This is something that could be changed with a firmware update I am pretty sure. Not saying it is going to happen overnight but it might be well worth a feature request. I am happy to put it in. The developers take notice of feature requests.

What would be good I think is 5 settings. The first 4 having a wider range than now and the fifth being OFF. Or another quick function to either have them all on or off.

No. The brightness setting only dimm the pads and don't dimm the buttons or Presonus center top light. We need a simple two-button sequence to turn all lights off (hibernate). And once off, any pad/button turns the lights back on (out of hibernate).

Yes, please submit an enhancement request.

Just unplug the USB when you're not using it.

And how long will the connectors in my Atom USB port last or start to fatigue and result in failure? The square USB ports are not designed to be pulled out daily.

Every other MIDI device, audio device I have has an On/Off switch why should the Atom be any different? I don't understand how a product such as the Atom could be designed without an on/off mode?

I agree, an all LEDs off feature is needed. As for the three brightness options that are currently there, I could also see a 4th level being useful too, but not nearly as important as being able to turn these lights off when not in use.

I have a classic FaderPort and the lights stay off until I boot up Studio One - they also turn back off once I close the DAW. Not sure why they moved away from that mindset.

I just made this a feature request, vote up the post to get Presonus to possibly see it sooner.

My Atom arrived yesterday. I found with most USB ports on my computer it remained fully lit up even with the computer off. And yes it can light a whole dark room nicely! I did try and change settings for those USB ports but nothing seemed to work.

I did find a USB port that powers it off at least. The three brightness settings could be a little wider in range and also a fourth completely dark option would be good but somehow wakes up when touched.

As the product description says, not for data transfer. This switch only supports the power lines in the USB cable.

I totally agree with the dark mode that we can switch on when not in use. I'm down to changing the bank color so that it lights up the room less than other color (orange is the best so far). Unplugging the USB every night is not the way to get around this issue.

That said, the Atom has changed my workflow and is literally a game-changer for my productions since the very first time I tried it.

But man is it bright at night in my studio...

We definitely need a lights off mode.
It's really annoying that hardware like this is still being sold today without a power button.

Maybe an A B box for the thunderbolt cable is an option to shutting the Atom off and on. Is that possible?
