Discuss Quantum Series Interfaces Here

Does anyone have a realistic idea of how long Presonus will support and offer firmware updates for their Quantum interface?
I love my Quantum, but I am wondering how long I should keep it before selling it since it cannot be a standalone preamp and needs the Universal Control program and software updates in order to work. I fear that eventually this will not be supported, or am I wrong? Will Presonus continue to make this a viable interface as long as they are a company?

Realistically? What computer are you running on? I was surprised to find I was able to use a twelve year old firepod up through OSX 10.13 at a friend’s practice space, but even more floored to find there are people running it on near-modern windows 10 machines now.

I’m running a 27” 2013 iMac and use three quantums in a mixing room. I never plan to update my computer. It is well maintained and has yearly cleanings. When it inevitably goes down, I have a backup with zero hours on it. I will never update past 10.13. I will have working quantum units until they (or I) die.

However, you can reasonably expect five years after end-of-life on the quantum line for Mac and 10-12 for PC for updates to maintain updated OS compatibility.

This goes for just about every company. Focusrite, Saffire line is unsupported. No more Digi003 support from avid. This is expected. Motu is wild; I used an 896HD mkii with Catalina the other day. Unit is almost 20 years old.

But that is the outlier. I’d say you have quite a bit of time left, but understand it’s not a forever thing.

Totally. I misspoke. I should have said that after their last driver update, the Saffire Pro40 would no longer guarantee functionality with future Mac OS releases, not windows. You’re right. My bad.

Oh it's out of support, you are totally right there, they also specifically say it won't work, but it does providing your FireWire adapter works.on Win11 and earlier.I'm using a couple of apple dongles to convert Thunderbolt 3 into FireWire 800 and then 400.
