Hi there,
As far as You can tell..are new TB3 interfaces coming?? I would need to replace one of my 2 quantum with a 4848...but I would eventually wait (even an year or so) and replace both with brand new TB 3 interfaces. Thanks in advance fo the info. Luca |
Hello,
Nobody replied but I will try. USB 2.0 = 0.5 Gb/s (480 Mb/s) = Good for 24 channels I/O simultaneous recording USB 3.0 = 5 Gb/s Thunderbolt 2 = 20 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 = 40 Gb/s From the table above you can see the numbers of the bandwidth that TH2 vs TH3 would give you. There isn't much if any advantage on TH2 vs TH3 from a bandwidth point of view. If Presonus released a TH3 interface with new features (software) & or hardware related pertaining pre_amps or super fantastic DSP fx with native super fast VSTi useage then this would be a different matter. I suppose it would be nice if Presonus did a Studio 192 successor with TH3 and DSP fx (really good ones) with super low latency like on a Quantum. Who knows but every year or two Presonus will release something new! - They need to for marketing purposes - |
This was my thought as well.
But then there is an entire branch short on converters. And the Thunderbolt interfaces will work with upcoming computers for a while. I had my Firestudios for 12 years now and can’t use them on my mixing machine, because it was too expensive for the manufacturer to sign new drivers to Apple while Firewire got abandoned years ago. So I had to use my old 2012 MacMini as my recording system and swap harddiscs to the mixing-system. Annoying! I know there are people expecting to get updated for their entire life. To me it’s ok, when I will be able to use this for another 10 years. So I just got the 2626. Im sure there will be some successor of the Quantum 2632 with TB4 or another AVB-Solution with better converters or whatever. But I did not want to wait for Namm 2022. And the sound of the 2626 is really OK. My first test recordings have really impressed me. And recording 15 tracks while monitoring at 1.5 ms roundtrip latency is really different from the 6 ms I had with my really fast firewire interfaces. And DSP? What for? As a dongle for a limited number of overpriced plugins? Those times are over. I can pack my M1 to the extents…. What’s coming next will propably not be such a big difference to hold you back from getting a new interface, when you need one.

i wish to see a tb3 companion interface for my quantum 2626 rather than having to buy extremely expensive and clanky tb adapters to connect my 2626 to a 3226 as well as to the tb3 of my pc. these adapters and cables are very costly and inconvenient. So a new quantum tb3 interface to add to the family of interfaces would be amazing.. how about adding AVB as well? C'mon presonus update us on this please!

New Product details are never discussed prior to release.
TB is expensive to develop. Multi-Port devices have to undergo rigorous Intel Certification testing. The Q2626 hit a lower price point that we wanted users to experience TB latency at. AVB is a cool option. All of that has been considered. Biggest hurdles are FPGA availability, with the parts shortages that have been going on. Development will be slow on any new versions.
