Guys if I still use my 16.4.2 mixer for inputs, but then output to my 2626 and then into S1 on Mac M1...am I compromising the signal chain?

Yes, a little. Your chain now includes more converters than need be, and the converters on the classic SL mixers were not as good as the newer ones.
But hey, sometimes you got to do what you got to do, e.g. because you need the extra mic inputs or the mixer's DSP and monitoring features. Listen carefully to the recorded tracks, and consider recording the 'money' inputs (e.g. solo mics) straight into the 2626. |
Hey bud....thanks for the info...I read some of your older posts and you know a lot about 16.4.2 !
Do you think I should us the 16.4.2 CR outputs and direct them into 2 channels of the 2626 ? Any important stuff lie main mic, guitar I can direct straight into 2626 . Thanks |
The CR outputs are the most flexible outputs for monitoring everything happening on the 16.4.2. These are also the outputs you don't want to use for recording because of that flexibility: Very easy to accidentally change the source when you least want to.
So hard to answer without knowing what you use the mixer for, how many input sources you have (and how many of those you want to record/process on your computer), how many outputs you need (and for what). Could everything be done with the 2626 (for signal quality) or why (do you prefer) not (to)? |
@switchback - I like the mixer as it has some other gear plugged in all the time, a Dat player, cassette deck, CD player, plus I use it if we do some rehearsal in the room.
I also control my Mic volume from the mixer while doing YT vids and so on...just seems like handy to have around. So in essence, nothing of any real audio quality , just useful, Thanks |
