I want to build a new windows computer to go with a Quantum 2626. In my research I have found that many people have had success using a Gigabyte z390 Designare but I have not found anyone using a Gigabyte z490 Vision D with Quantum 2626. Has anyone successfully hooked up a Quantum 2626 with the z490 Vision D? Thank you

Look at my signature it works great. In the thunderbolt bios settings I enabled Boot Once cause the Quantum disconnected on regular restarts. Now it works fine. I don't have the Quantum 2626, but the Presonus Quantum

My system
Intel Core i9-10900K Processor
Noctua NH-U12A CPU cooler
Gigabyte Z490 VISION D
Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB SSD
Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200MHz 64GB
MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Gaming X Trio 12G
StarTech Thunderbolt Cable 2M (TBOLTMM2MW)
StarTech Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter (TBT3TBTADAP)
Neumann TLM 102 microphone
Presonus Quantum
Windows 10, Ableton 11, Cubase 10

Just a thought here, but you'll get much more freedom in pricing and feature set for your mobo if you add a TB3 card. I run an Aorus Master Z390 with a Gigabyte Titan Ridge card. You also get 2 TB3 ports this way, which even opens the possibility for doubling up on interfaces in the future, or just using other TB devices.

Gigabyte Z490 Vision D has two thunderbolt ports. I don't agree that a board without native thunderbolt is cheaper since add on card for the Gigabyte Z490 is pretty expensive. Z390 does not support the new Intel CPU's so that is another downside.

Right, not saying it will be cheaper, just extending the idea that it might give more freedom in mobo choices, and by extension, price. Maybe you want a board with certain ethernet spec AND well rated vrms, but it doesn't have TB. But yeah, that Z490 board looks great for a workstation.

I have both Gigabyte Z390 Designare and Asus Z390-A Prime with a PCI-e extension card (ThunderboltEx). Both work perfectly fine. The only thing is, you will need to tweak your BIOS settings to correspond to your PC usecase. I have my power states removed because I am on 5 GHz overclock on my Intel i9 9900K.

AMD has published some mobos with Thunderbolt 3 support, but most of the better ones are for Threadripper CPUs. There's one for consumer Ryzen processors from AsRock but in a small form factor (mini ITX) and only 2 slots for RAM. If you have the money, I'd suggest you go with the Threadripper

For AMD and thunderbolt I'm still a sceptic. Best alternative for AMD/thunderbolt is:
Gigabyte B550 Vision D and AMD Ryzen 9 5000 series

Hi,

AsRock X570 Taichi Razer Edition supports thunderbolt via the asrock_th3_rev_2_card_

I don't know how well it works though
