I bought a Quantum 2626 from Sweetwater when they came out. Have been working with it for over a month now. Every so often (maybe every other day), even when the unit isn't currently receiving any input, and even when my DAW is not running, all eight level LEDs on the front panel will spontaneously glow red for about 5 seconds and then go out. When this happens, the 2626 will no longer be working, and will not accept any input through Thunderbolt, and will not output anything. After the "red flash", the unit is dead. The Thunderbolt connectivity light remains solid blue, however. In most cases, this event will also cause problems on my iMac, with an inability to play any system audio through the 2626, and in some cases a system freeze. I have to shut down my iMac, shut down the 2626, and then bring everything back up to return to normal operation. This is starting to upset me. Is anyone else experiencing this with their 2626?

Besides putting in a support ticket with Presonus, you may want to contact your Sweetwater rep. While I have a Quantum 2, the reps at Sweetwater have been helpful more than once.

Thank you. Starting with a Support Ticket at Sweetwater, who I hear will open a ticket with PreSonus if needed.

From the Sweetwater tech:

1) Be sure to install the latest version of Universal Control.
2) Try a new thunderbolt cable.
3) If you're not connected directly, try that.
4) Try a PRAM reset.

Number 1, 2 and 3 already had been done. Number 4 was just done, and we'll see where this goes.

Quick follow-up. After going along with the Sweetwater tech's suggestions, the freeze-up happened again two days later. As expected, Sweetwater asked for a system info dump, and will now take it up with PreSonus.

Have you tried not running the Universal Control App. I found this was causing my mac mini to freeze and crash. I just configure everything in DAW instead and it's fine.

Hope this helps

Hmm. Interesting. Maybe I'll give that a go. Thanks.

Hi.. Did you ever resolve the problem? My Quantum 2626 which has been working since February or so, just started flashing all lights on power up and all lights blink at 1 second intervals. It is not recognized by UC or the Thunderbolt app under Windows.. Previously the unit has been working fine. No changes to OS or hardware config have been done. I did try another TB cable, port, remove/install drivers and UC with no luck.
I suspect it's a hardware issue.

Is there a way to perform a hard reset on these units?
Something like a pinhole reset?

I have a ticket open with Presonus.

Thanks!

The cable seemed to be half the problem, and Universal Control the other half. Since replacing the T3 cable, the incidence of system freeze-ups went way down. I think I have only had two since then. Since eliminating UC from start-up, and not running it at all, I haven't had any problems with the system, although I did witness the 2626 go into fault mode one more time about a week ago (all red lights for 10 seconds, then nothing). Since that time, there have been no issues. Things do seem a lot cleaner. My non-expert assessment is that the good cable takes you part of the way, and that dumping UC gets you almost all the rest of the way. I suspect there may still be hardware or firmware or T3 driver issues. But as of now, I am not horribly put out by any issues, and am willing to keep going with this 2626 in my current configuration.

Thank you for the information. I actually tried a brand new official Apple TB3 (USBC) cable with the same results. Also the unit started to intermittently not power on so something is amok. The power supply measures correct output voltage so that seems fine.

I'm still waiting for Presonus to work my ticket. If they don't get to it by end of day I'll go through Sweetwater and take advantage of their 2 year warranty.

Up until this point, the 2626 has been absolutely rock solid. Super low latency and it just sits there and works. Hopefully my unit gets fixed/replaced quickly.

Just an update.. So Presonus contacted me and asked for a System.nfo file. Since the 2626 was packed for shipment and my system was now configured to use my MOTU Ultralite AVB I had to re-install the 2626.

So of course upon powering up the 2626 with nothing connected to it other than the power supply it goes through it's self test correctly something that wasn't happening prior to packing it up. All lights would just flicker really quickly, which was not a normal power on.

Anyway, I connected it, re-installed driver and UC and of course the beast is working and has been working for 4 days now even after many power off/on to try and provoke a failure.

Again, my particular failure has nothing to do with connecting to the computer. It wasn't even completing the self test correctly which is all lights on solid for a second or so and then the TB light red. When it fails the lights briefly flicker, don't stay on long enough, although it ends up with the TB light red. When in failed mode, connecting the TB cable causes all lights to blink on and off continuously.

Sigh, guess I'll have to wait for it to die completely before I go through this rodeo again.

Posting this just in case someone with a similar problem can benefit from it.
