Discuss Quantum Series Interfaces Here

Hi folks..

Not sure why the board index only list Quantum 2 under Thunderbolt? Anyway of the two that is my most likely option. I wonder if anyone can answer any of the following questions for me?

I'll be using with a Mac Pro 2013 (aka "trash can")

1/ Is the Quantum 2 the same 'under the hood' as the Quantum? Same convertors and audio quality, drivers?

2/ If piping in more channels from a mixer/pre-amp supporting ADAT output - does this impact on latency at all? Likewise if I monitor via a high end convertor via the SPDIF out?

3/ I've seen a few disconcerting comments about the Quantum having hiss/noise.. just random Youtube comments so I cannot pin further information it might just relate the control room mic channel.. Anybody having issues with background noise?

4/Any particular Thunderbolt 2 cable recommended for use with the Mac Pro?

It's quite a chunk of change to me and I see PreSonus aren't enthusing Windows users with their support - so before I take the plunge, any other thoughts would be much appreciated!

Thanks

P.

I am considering a Quantum to replace my Raydat, Mackie 800R and Central Station. I have a current Windows 10 PC with a Gigabyte MB with two Thunderbolt ports. Studio One 4 Pro. I am surprised at the lack of comments here. Perhaps the Quantum should be avoided for PC use for now?

Quantam works fine on PC, when you have the correct pc components. The confusion at the beginning of the product, was mainly from users under the impression that you could just add a tb card to the PC.

If you have native mobo support for TB, then you should be fine.

My .02, keep the central station. Hardware control is better than software buttons for monitor management.

I use Quantum with PC every day.

Asus X99 A-II Motherboard
i7 6800k 6 core / 12 thread @ 3.7 Ghz all cores
16 GB DDR4 2400 Mhz

To answer your questions:

1. Same components. Same specs.
2. Latency is the same no matter what you are doing. I use the SPDIF output to my Central Station.
3. No noise problems here.
4. Use Apple brand Cables for Mac. Optical versions are more expensive, but can go a longer distance than 10 ft (copper version max length).

PC #2: ASUS X299 Prime Deluxe II, i7-7820X 8c/16t, 16GB 2666 MHz DDR4, GTX 1060 3GB, Samsung 970 EVO NVMe M.2 SSD (Win10 Pro), Samsung 860 EVO SATA SSD (Win11 Pro), OWC Aura 512GB NVMe M.2, 2 x 1TB HDD
