I'll be building a new computer in Q2 next year, I'm thinking about buying Quantum as well.
If its latency figures are as good as advertised it'll be a leap forward from my USB interface. That said, TB on a PC is still a black art, anyone (ehem, Slick audio, I've seen that video, jeez) using it on a PC? Is there a mention of a suggested MB/RAM/Graphics card combo for it anywhere? Cheers, Klemen |
I do.
What is your Motherboard and it is got TB capability?

I'm using a Gigabyte GA-Z170 Gaming Mobo. It has a Thunderbolt 3 port on board, so I had to buy an Thunderbolt 2 adapter. I tried these ones:
Apple 2663283 Thunderbolt-Adapter => no STARTECH TBT3TBTADAP Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt Adapter => yes AKiTiO T3T, Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt (2) => yes In my case the Apple adapter didn't work. I bought the AKiTiO T3T because of the lower price. Graficcard EVGA 04G-P4-3967-KR NVIDIA GTX960 SSC Gaming ACX 2.0+ 4 GB All works fine.

Yes it is documented in the Knowledge nase and I would have told you, the Apple one did not work for me.
I used Startech and it works great.

Hi !!
Got one (Quantum) yesterday and...WOW!! It's working great with my Asus x99 and Thunderboltex 3. Less than 2 ms rt 96 Khz I'm glad I joined this Family PS I really did nothing special in the bios:enableb TB and set the pcie port. |
And bought a TB 3 to TB2 converter. Correct?

jpettit wroteAnd bought a TB 3 to TB2 converter. Correct? Yep...I'm so happy I forgot to mention I got this one TBT3TBTADAP... Assuming the interface works well with add on pice cards (IF they are TB 3) and Assuming "we" don't want to scare potential customers,, would be better to change the sentence "It will not work with add on cards" with "It will work with TB3 add on cards"??!! |

I use my Quantum to record my guitars with Peavey Revalver 4 amp plugin on input insert while recording and all works fine.

Just installed the Quantum 2 on my Windows machine as well. Works great. Fantastic sound and latency.
I have an Asus motherboard (X299) and they have a thunderbolt card for it (thunderboltex 3). It does have a USBc connector, so I also bought an Apple USB-c to thunderbolt cable. The confusing thing with Thunderbolt is that a lot of different formats use the same connector. Most USBc connectors that support Thunderbolt, only support Thunderbolt 3, which won't work with the Quantum, even with a convertor cable. |
Late to this thread, just started posting on these forums...
For those who may read this thread in the future: The Asus Thunderbolt EX3 works just fine with the Apple Thunderbolt-3 >Thunderbolt-2 adapter. |
So I finally got my native Thunderbolt port working on my Asus Z170-PREMIUM running Presonus Quantum. It was a struggle and yesterday I almost gave up. I tried every setting in bios possible, but actually I did not have to change a single thing from the default settings (bios 3801). The thing I was missing was the motherboard firmware update which is not the same as bios update.
(People that buy the Asus Thunderboltex 3 adapter has to change the settings in bios. I can also connect my motherboard to Asus Thunderboltex 3, but don't see the point since you only are allowed to use one Thunderbolt port at a time cause bios does not allow two.) I have just tried the Quantum for a couple of hours but it seems stable and fast. hmm I get 1,67 ms latency on 64 buffer size and 96 sample rate. What is your cpu and DAW?
I'm using Ableton and see signature for my system

TerjeNorway wrotehmm I get 1,67 ms latency on 64 buffer size and 96 sample rate. What is your cpu and DAW? Pretty much the same except Intel i7-6700k @ 4.00Ghz overclocked 10% and 64 gig DDR4 ram, PC also totally set up for only Audio, all Win 10 services that can be turned off are, Toshiba external SSD drive for Audio, and Kensington internal SSD for operating system/ software.Plugs, etc....Studio One v4.1.3 , dunno, must be some magic dust getting me the extra 0.27ms ... |
Jessa wrote my cpu is also slightly overclocked to 4,3 GhZ. Maybe since Studio One is Presonus you are getting a little bit more out of the Quantum. By the way are you using 96 sample rate as standard? I'm using 48 sample rate as standard, I'm not sure if it's worth changing to 96

Yes. Happy to report that the system I built a while back to work with My UAD Apollos on PC, also works with the Quantums.
Specs: i7 7700K Gigabyte Aourus Z270 Gaming 7 32 Gb RAM, 2x 1TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus Nvme Intel 550 10Gbe NIC Windows 10 x64 Startech TB3 to TB 2 adapter 1x Quantum 26x32, 2x Quantum 48 UAD Satellite Octo, Apollo 8, Apollo 8P All work on one thunderbolt daisy chain. I use the Quantums as the audio device in studio One. I still use My Apollos for tracking, so I use the UA console & Plug ins for input & The apollos mirror their analog inputs to ADAT which is fed to the Quantums ADAT ins. The quantums more than fulfill their purpose, which is to act as a patch-bay for all the outboard. Pipeline XT + Quantums means every single bit of analog hardware I own is now a drag and droppable preset. Couple that with Studio ones powerful plug in routing & splitter, I will not miss a physical patch panel at all. The whole system works flawlessly at 512 block size, and pretty well at 256, lower than that introduces clicks and pops when you start pushing it. The only problem I have encountered is a higher than average start up time, as the Windows Audio Endpoint service seems to go into overdrive at boot up or whenever you change block sizes. (To be fair, I do have quite a few audio devices for it to sort out!) Other than that, it all works. I also have a trashcan Mac, but haven't even plugged the Quantums in, as I still haven't had a single crash on Studio One on PC since I started using it! So, you know what they say... If it aint broke.. add more Quantums Hope this helps someone. |
