I checked in with Universal Control today, and was notified that there was a firmware update available for my Quantum 2626. I performed the update, and also followed the usual instructions to shut it down, pull the Thunderbolt cable out of the back for 10 seconds, plug it back in, and restart. Then I did a check for updates on the Universal Control software and was notified that there was a new version of that, as well. I performed the update. Now, no matter what I do, my iMac running Big Sur 11.4 cannot connect to the 2626. Blinking blue front panel Thunderbolt lamp. Not going solid blue. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling Universal Control and the Thunderbolt driver. This is Universal Control 3.5.0.64605 now, and because I cannot get a connection to the 2626, I am unable to determine which version of the firmware I had installed (whatever the latest is, obviously).

So what am I doing wrong?

Continuing to fight this in every way I can think of, and still no connection. I am beyond upset, because this effectively puts me out of a job.

Just did the same thing, same problem. Oddly, the light was solid blue before the firmware upgrade, but didn't show up as an audio device. Ah ha, firmware update"that must be the problem, so I thought. Nope! One step forward, two steps back. Also did the "allow" thing in the Security and Privacy system prefs to no avail (shouldn't have needed to since it's a software update, but I digress). So glad it's not essential that it works for me right now unlike some of you. I feel your pain.

Thanks for sharing, Mike.

I can actually get a solid blue Thunderbolt lamp by using the Uninstaller to get rid of UC and the driver, restarting the iMac with the 2626 off, turning the 2626 back on when the iMac has fully booted, and then reinstalling UC and the driver. Lamp goes solid blue at point, and is shown as a device in UC, but when clicking on it, macOS pops up the notification that the 2626 is "unresponsive", and should be restarted. A restart of the 2626, or a restart of the iMac, brings me right back to a blinking blue lamp, with no connection, and UC doesn't even show it as a device.

Well, PreSonus has our Support Tickets for this, and I sure hope they have a solution soon. Maybe they'll tell us to downgrade the driver and/or UC to get back to something that works.

I was poking around and notice the release notes on the driver download page:

https://pae-web.presonusmusic.com/downloads/products/release_notes/UC_3_5_Milestone_Release_Notes.pdf

Ironically, it states the following:

Quantum Series Interfaces
● Clock Sync now working as expected on Big Sur
● Quantum now shows as an audio device on Big Sur

Yep, I saw that, too. But then I started getting a little curious, and I went to this page:

https://www.presonus.com/products/Unive ... /downloads

I found a number of things interesting here. First, the page "detected" that my operating system is macOS 10.15 Catalina. Nope. Wrong-o, Mary Lou! I'm on macOS 11.4 Big Sur. Then I noticed that the only version of macOS Big Sur that they have in the drop-down for manually selecting your OS is 11.2. That doesn't bode well. So I decided I'd better try downgrading Universal Control and the Thunderbolt driver to the previous versions. After selecting the closest match to my OS version, I hit the "Show / Hide all versions of software downloads for macOS 11.2 Big Sur" link, and up popped the download link for Universal Control v3.4.2.63992. I grabbed it. I first used the UC 3.5.0 Uninstaller to kill what I had installed, and then installed from the 3.4.2 installer. Again, macOS asked me to go into "Security & Privacy" and give permission for PreSonus to install that version of the driver, and after restarting the iMac, everything came up running perfectly!

So, the solution for just getting back up and running is to follow my description above and do the same thing. Downgrade.

One important note... UC 3.4.2 now shows this:

Screen Shot 2021-06-24 at 8.26.49 PM.png

At the very beginning of this misadventure, I had updated the Quantum's firmware to version 1.3-91, and I'm supposing that because this is UC 3.4.2 now, it's wanting to see firmware version 1.3-86 on the Quantum. Everything seems to be working just fine, even with 1.3-91 on there, so at this point I'm not too pressed to downgrade the firmware, too. It might be a better idea to go ahead and do that, but I'm not going to do it just now. I've got work to do! And if it's working, IT'S WORKING! No touchy!!!

Awesome! Glad you got things working. Makes sense, as this seems to be a new glitch that is present in the latest driver version.

On my end, I received a response from tech support (Alan D'Arcy) and he requested a "system report" output file, which I just sent off. In the meantime, I'll give your method a shot to see if I can get up and running while we wait for them to release yet another glitch-free driver version :)

That was the first response from Tech Support (Mitchell Dies) on my ticket, too. I provided the System Report. The next response (Butch Richard) was boilerplate troubleshooting stuff about proper cabling, dedicated connection, and making sure permissions were granted in Security & Privacy. Basically everything that I've been doing since the Quantum arrived. Told them about the downgrade success, and wished them luck on resolving the continuing compatibility issues with the latest release of Big Sur.

This topic has already been marked solved by mods. Over and out.

Not solved for me. I followed the same steps to downgrade to the previous version and I'm getting the same result (blinking blue light). Sigh.

Update: After trying several times with 3 different versions of UC I finally got a solid blue light! v3.4.2 did the trick. Not sure what I did to make it work when it didn't before. Actually, I had the device plugged in and turned on, which might have been the difference. I'm getting the firmware update warning, but I don't dare change anything now I've got it working.....for now :|

Glad you got it working with UC 3.4.2, just like I did. It may have done the trick for us because our systems had already opened up security to that particular version in the past. Those permissions, tied to 3.4.2 explicitly, may have been why the connection was possible. I think there are some real 11.4 Big Sur compatibility problems with UC 3.5.0 and whatever version of the Thunderbolt driver comes with that. Hopefully, they'll figure it out.
