What to do with Virtual Inputs?

Setting up my Studio 26c with Studio One I noticed "Virtual Inputs" in the Audio I/O setup panel. What are these for? The manual for the 26c doesn't mention them.

Open up your mixer from the Universal Control software. You can mix each virtual
input into any of the physical outputs in any way you'd like.
