I want to try my active (uses phantom power) Golden Age ribbon mic using the preamp in the Studio Channel and bypass the preamp in my PreSonus AudioBox 22VSL.

I would have thought that just using the XLR mic in and out, going into one of the combo jacks on the front of the Audiobox 22 VSL would be the signal path.

Not sure about this but the guy at the store said to use the TRS output on the back of the Studio Channel and from that go into the Audiobox to make sure that the preamp on the Audiobox is bypassed.

What is correct?

Also what happens if you use a TS cable instead of a TRS? It just won't be a balanced signal? I don't know what a balanced signal is, either.

thanks in advance!
