I'm running my Axe-Fx into ch.15 and 16 mic/line on the StudioLive 16, XLR out to XLR in. I read that the combo jack will only bypass the mic pre by using a 1/4". I'm not clipping either channel, I have 0db of gain added, and I believe everything is working/sounding fine, but wanted to know if I should be using XLR to 1/4" TRS instead. Thanks!

Hi and welcome to this forum :)

If it works it works. Note that many FX units are designed to allow use as a mic (cable) insert, in which case the output parameters allow you to connect the unit to a mic input.

Never had an issue doing this. If there is no obvious distortion or clipping, then do it.
