Dear community,

I need to work with a Shure SM7B and a Rode Procaster with a StudioLive 32SC.
Do the PreAmps provide enough gain to work with them?
How noisy are the PreAmps at 55-60 dB gain?

Thanks & best regards

Tom

I have a SIII 24 and SM7B. The mixer provides excellent preamp gain which is clear with very low noise. I did not have to use the Cloud Lifter either.

I've just purchased SM7B and connected it to my StudioLive 32SX for recording vocals.
With maximum input gain, the volume is still quite low.
I believe I would have to purchase Cloudlifter (or similar).
I read somewhere that another option is to apply a compressor in StudioLive and increase its output level. I will try it first..

Never had an issue with the SM7B. If it's too quiet, then your SOURCE is too quiet. The entire point of a dynamic is to accept a louder signal source.

Podcast world is suggesting these mics because it's trendy (and because the mic looks good on a boom).

Cloud lifter's didn't always exist and are not mutually exclusive for SM7B's.

Apply 30-40dB of gain and then use Compressor on DSP, then use the Makeup Gain to push the signal higher (just like the cloud lifter would, but POST input gain which won't clip).

Our PD-70 sounds better and is cheaper alternative.
