Hi Guys.
I have recently purchased an Nsb16.8 and have connected it to my SL 32 using a 75mtr cat5e to the stage box and a 2m cat5e to connect to the desk.(see below) I am completely new to AVB so this is a huge learning curve for me so please excuse my ignorance. I have set up the box using AVB 41-48 changing 47 & 48 to main L/R and then 41 to 46 are already preset for auxes 1 - 6. I have chosen Inputs 1-8 and 9-16 and have matched those to the NSB. So all is good there. I had a problem straight away with the main fader not working on main LR then realised it needed to be set to post fader. So got to the gig yesterday got set up, had a combination of NSB 1 - 16 and analogue snake 17 - 24. Aux 1 - 6 NSB and 9 - 11 analogue. So the band started soley through the NSB and the FOH and auxes kept cutting out every 15secs or so, only for a sec and then came back on. Each input digital send set to post and assumed should be set to analogue input as using xlr at the NSB end. Changing the inputs to analogue did help but still cut out but not as often. As I said I am new to AVB and feel the manuals need to go into a bit more depth in how to set up the desk, or a video would be nice HELP Thanks Chris cablehttps://www.thomann.de/gb/the_sssn ... gIduPD_BwE https://www.thomann.de/gb/pro_snake_cat5e_cable_2m.htm |
It's not clear if the "the sssnake Cat 75" really meets the required standards for CAT5e cables. The cable is not shielded and there are problems reported with connections (read the german version https://www.thomann.de/de/the_sssnake_cat_50.htm).
Try a shorter cable to check if the problems persist. |
thanks for the reply
would this cable be any better? https://www.studiospares.com/Cables-Lea ... lsrc=aw.ds is everything else i've posted sound correct in setting up the NSB? Thanks Chris |
I would say that this cable looks better, but I am not a specialist. PreSonus recommends and uses CAT6 cables and there is quite some information about this subject in the "StudioLive Series III AVB Networking Guide" (StudioLive_Series_III_AVB_Networking_Guide_19042018.pdf), which you can find on the download pages.
"Shorter cable" meant anything below 75 meters, but it needs to be a CAT5e or CAT6 cable. Simply take the blue CAT6 cable that came with your mixer. You should to find out if the problem goes away when using a correct type of cable. Then it's clear that the cheap Thomann cable does not deliver. Otherwise the drums look quite similar... I do not own any Series III product, so I can't answer any specific question and anyway the NSB's are brandnew. They're not available in Germany yet... |
Evening all..
I’m still having a few problems! I have bought this cable and have reset desk back to factory setting https://www.staggmusic.com/en/products/ ... rl?backp=1 but i’m still getting glitching through the monitors. Should they be set to analogue or network? I really want this to work but am struggling! can anyone help? Thanks Chris |
The NSBs are totally new products, so there might be some bugs around, but basically they should work. There should be no need to go back to analog snakes! Hopefully user davidsiegel1 will come back here and help you.
Your descriptions are partly a little unclear. Do you use a direct connection between mixer and stagebox, or is an AVB switch involved (which one?)? And what do yo mean by "glitches"? Is the "cutting out" of the sound now gone after changing the network cable? Can you describe more detailed, how the sound is disturbed? |
Hi.
Yes it’s a direct connection and it keeps cutting out. All auxes and FOH. only for a second and only seems to do it when the NSB has multiple inputs and outs running. If i’m just playing an ipod direct from the desk it doesn’t seem to have a problem. I don’t want to have to send it back as I really want it to work but am getting fed up now. Thanks Chris |
What firmware version for SL32 SIII and UC version are you running?

There need to be certain settings made between mixer and stagebox to tell them how they are meant to work together, so I think it doesn't matter which one is booted first. Generally the mixer should be first.
There was no word about changes for the stageboxes in the latest releases of UC Surface and Series III firmware, but as the situation is desparate, why not trying the beta firmware? You need to be logged in to see the section in the forums (startpage). The latest beta firmware is v1.9.14575. |
chriscoady wrotewithout booting the desk up i’m 99% sure it’s 1.8 14273 released May 15th. This is the latest on My Presonus. Be sure to update to v1.9.14636

I am having similar issues. I have the SL 32 Series 3 with two NSB 16.8 stage boxes. All of my AVB streams seem to be assigned properly, because I get audio as expected, however I am using a ProCo 100’ cat5e shielded cable which goes directly from board to box via jack “A” on one of the NSB 16.8 boxes, then out of jack “B” to Jack”A” of the next box. The second cable is the same type only 25’. The audio will mute from anywhere between 1/2 second to 1 or 2 seconds. And sometimes it seems that audio only from only one of the stage boxes drops out. Also, when in the setup page on the board, the clock sync light will go from green to red after the dropout which leads me to believe that the dropout is either due to a slower rated cable, or some other type of clock problem. I tried updating the firmware of all devices. The mixer is now on v1.2.11832 and the stage boxes are on v1.1.0.15533. The audio will drop less frequently if less Audio is streaming (ie. one instrument playing vs a full band) but still will lose sync and get the dropouts. The dropouts occur on both my auxes to the monitors and on the mains. If I run an analog input straight from the board (iPod thru tape inputs at the board or wireless mic direct into board), then out the main outputs (which are on the first stageboxes’ outputs 1 & 2 same as chriscoady with outputs set the same too) I get no loss of audio. Perhaps it is only a problem with what comes from the stageboxes to the board?
I am also new to networking and Presonus as well, but I like to think I know something about networking (at least I thought I did) Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks! |
I'd recommend updating the firmware on your mixer. What version of Universal Control are you running?
