Someone mentioned that Presonus was going to make rack mount ears for the 16 Channel - does anyone know this to be fact?

If so , I don't see any holes in the side where the mount would go

Thanks

I'm in love with my new 16ch Series III mixer and can't wait to use it at a show. However, I'm pretty disappointed that the rack mount ears are not yet available. I'd rather not have to patch my mixer rack at each show until the ear are available. I wish they would have used the same specs as the ears used on the earlier models.

I just ordered my SL 16 SIII from Musician's Friend to replace my SL 16 SI mixer that I use at church. When are the rack ears going to available? Will they be sent to those who buy the mixer without them, or will we have to buy them separately? I'm amazed that the mixers aren't shipping with them.

The "Rack Ear Mounting Kit" for StudioLive 16.4.2 and 16.4.2AI mixer and CS18AI controller was always sold separate. Follow this link for details: https://shop.presonus.com/products/accessories/Mixer-Accessories/Rack-Ear-Mounting-Kit-for-one-StudioLive-1642-Mixer-or-CS18AI. Why should this be different with the SL 16 III? Just wondering...

Then I guess someone included them by mistake with my first generation 16.4.2. Fact is, the first generation 16 channel mixer came with them. I don't see why this one should be any different.

Ok, I don't remember any more what accessories came with my SL 16.4.2, so you may be right. Times have changed. The manual for the AI mixers does not list rack ears (section 1.3) and they also don't come with the CS18AI, which has exactly the same housing. There are also no printed manuals and CDs with software included in the package.. ;-)

Looks like you've owned enough of these mixers to have forgotten what they all came with. :) It would certainly be decent of Presonus to include the rack ears. I find it pretty annoying when companies don't include accessories that are necessary to make something fully functional.

Does anyone know if the rack ears from the 16.4.2 will fit the SL16III? My SL16III is arriving this week and I'm itching to get it in my rack at church and start using it.
Looks like the SL16III is slightly wider, but I'll bet the screw pattern is different.

They won't fit. The Series III rack ears fold around the mixer (four M5 screws into the bottom) without the need to remove the side panels. Looks like it's pretty easy to fabricate something yourself if need be.

EDIT: Make that 4 M5 screws a side (after you take off the rubber feet) and a slightly more intricate bending job. But still doable :)

Thanks for the quick reply. I figured it was too good to be true. Sure would be nice to have an update on the shipping date for these.

According to the PDF of the mixer specs, you should not have to remove the feet to mount the PreSonus-designed rack mount ears. The side drawing shows the feet still attached. So, it appears that the ears are attached with just two screws on each ear.

I'm having a local fabricator make up some ears to mount mine. I hope to have them in the next week. They are costing me about $75 to make. It's a PITA to have to box/unbox, patch/repatch every show, but it's definitely worth the cost and effort.

The exact screws should be M5-0.8. Make sure you get the 0.8 thread pitch. The length will vary depending on the thickness of the ears. I purchased a handful of M5-0.8x14 screws that don't interfere with the internal workings of the mixer.

I think I saw where PreSonus won't have the rack ears available until summer or fall. It could be a while.

When I get them, I'll check back with some photos and my thoughts on how they work. Then you can decide if you want to get a set.

According to a post I saw on FB earlier, the rack ears are apparently in the works and are expected in August. According to Rick Naqvi, they were experiencing some issues with their sheet metal fabricator, which has caused a delay.

I hope that's not the case. I'll end up enlisting the services of a metal fabricator if we're going to have to wait that long.

Does anyone know the screw size for the bottom of the mixer? I'm going to make my own rack ears. The rack ears were supposed to be available in August, but now we're into September and they're still not here.

M5x10mm or even M5x8mm with a countersunk head will do (metric thread).
