Love that! Some sort of prism?

I want one. Where did you get yours?

Thx.

Guys,
Thought you may be interested. I'm going to try this single prism out, and let you know.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/THZY-Physics-Education-Prism-Precision-Optical-Glass-4-inches/700204940?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=10614&adid=22222222228135039428&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=244152701245&wl4=pla-402455775301&wl5=9058754&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=117071761&wl11=online&wl12=700204940&wl13=&veh=sem

I'll measure the required length tonight. I'm guessing about 8 inches since the unit is 12 inches wide. Here's an 8" right angle prism. They have 4, 6 and 8 in Stock.

Those are the actual LCD screens - pulled out and somehow "re-mounted". lol :ugeek:

Man, I might just try that.
(my rubber door-jam wedges glued underneath keep falling off)

Wow, interesting hardware solution. But this is not for me. I'm more a professional drummer and presumably I do not have a good technician competence for those technical tweaks. But anyway. With this solution you can read/tagging each tracks more easily like the default display?

Again, I'm thinking the main reason for this topic is the fact, that the track name information on FP8 screen is not done in a legibility method which users will expecting from hardware controllers with displays, The Track name information on FP8 screen is to short and to small. Surely nobody needs on track view mode a dual control information of each panning positions instead of a clearly track name information. The track numbers should be displayed on the first row at display. How many years will PreSonus waiting for correcting those mistakes? I'm very disappointed in this matter.

Inexpensive laptop stands seem to be the most practical solution.

Well, back on track (for me, anyway), the main reason for this post was control display brightness. But my apologies, throwing in the prism link options. I think we can all agree the indicators are not the FP8/16 strong suit.

The angled stand suggestions help not only seeing the display, but slightly improve the needed contrast viewing angle of them. My problem with a stand is while I'm using a prop to angle the unit (about a mere 20 degrees. Is all), I much prefer a control surface to lay flat. But I won't complain. The multi channel Fadwrport advantages far outweigh it's rather crappy flat display angle. Mmv, but I think the display.itself is fine.

As to track naming, the FP track width for better or worse is quite narrow. About .875 inch. And producing about one dozen characters is all you're going to get. That's quite synonymous with any lcd channel display out there from any brand of control surfaces. The one unit I definitely could read well is viewing the SSL Nucleus 2. Super clear, and yellow on black. Only, you get less information, and you'll have to shell out $5700 for the 16 track. So far be it, I'm going to bad rap Presonus on their current FP offerings.

The FP8/16 does what it does amazingly well, and covers tactile usage like a champ. Buttons bright, color keyed, and no longer clickety. :)

At this point I agree with you. I prefer also flat controller units on producer table. Even a (foldout) LCD/meter-bridge would be fine. But the FP8/16 controller do not have those hardware functionality on board. So in this case it is not a helpfully way to discuss here. Maybe in future days when PreSonus announcing a more expensive pro version of a faderport controller. Nobody knows. Or you are able to build or own hardware LCD/meter-bridge solution like seeing from @arvenilsen. The laptop stand solution which @jpettit suggested here is not my preferred position for the FP8 controller on producer table.

What I like to see is just a channel screen in track view mode like PreSonus themself do showing on FP8 main product page. Not the main product page from FP16! Just open both product pages and switch between this two pictures and you can see promptly what I'm meaning. At FP8 Picture you can see much more clearly the track names and channel numbers with more sense compare to the FP16 picture.

I like to see a black or most dark background screen with white big and strong contrast font like seen on FP8 main product page. First row is the track number second and third!!! row is the track name and only the last row is showing the pan position. Of course in track view mode. This is not a hardware manipulation or additional laptop stand solution. It should be fixed just with a new firmware update from PreSonus. How many years we have to wait for this firmware update? PreSonus please do it immediately. Thank you very much.

Hey guys, I ordered what I think might be the right size prism. Will arrive in about a week. I'll keep you posted. Fingers crossed.

Yes please tell if it works with the prism.
Did you have a FP16 ?

I have the 8. The footprint is ideal so I wouldn't change a thing. I measured and found that a 7" prism would be ideal. A more common 8" won't work at all, and is too large. I'll post a pic, when it comes in. Hoping, because the indicators are my only disappointment to an otherwise outstanding unit.

Well Lokeyfly,
I have some good news and some bad news for you:
The bad news is that - if you got the same 7" prism I got (yeah, I went there - and I could only fine one that size from a Chinese seller on ebay) - it probably won't work out for you. The angle is too wide (distorts the image), the body is too thick and heavy, and you'd have to find a way to mount it flat-face-up, which is a bit perilous given the size of the thing. My kid is having a blast with it though. :punk:

But here's the good news:
Going off of what I learned from that one, I rolled the dice on something else I managed to find... and it actually DOES WORK.

Here's some pics...

I for one, would very much like to know how you did it and i'm sure others will too !!!
Thank you @Wonder6oy

Did you by any chance use a 3D printer ?? Or did you just use cardboard ? And if so how ? and sizes and angle's please !!! :D

Nothing crazy - just magnetic tape and super-glue. 8-)
I'll put up a few more pics when I have the chance.

Back to Brightness Control as OP asked:
To adjust the Brightness in it self you have to startup the FP and holding the two first Select buttons while doing it.
Then go to Setup. Then you have three options of Brightness, from there I go one back and adjust the Contrast with the Pan knob. There you go !
I have the latest firmware update through the Universal Control version 2.5.3

( ups !! just realized that Bbd was way ahead of me, sorry Bbd)

Did they work out. Mine isn't arriving until 5/20. Had an order mix up, and it's been delayed. I'll have to wait and see.

Thank you, wonder6oy!
I missed seeing your post, until now.

Since I have the 7" prism coming in, along with Klypeman, we can post the results. Makes sense about the angle, and the 10 PC set you chose.

It's a trial & error thing, so the $17 I spent won't break the bank. I'm glad you provided the best option.

I'm determined to fix that horrible straight up angle. :XD:

Yeah, it looks like the cutouts you made set the appropriate angle, by slightly elevating, and directing the view the right way. Nice going. I probably should know better being a shutterbug, looking through pentaprism vs pentamirror viewfinders. Only my initial excitement was from the prism info originally posted by arvenilsen. It looks as though he/she did some altering of pitch as well, but still not as clear as your solution.

BTW sorry to original poster, if the brightness issue has been bumped a bit, so if anyone wishes for the prism conversation (based on indicator visibility, though) to move elsewhere, we can.

Otherwise, there goes the neighborhood!

My prism came in. Actually, in my case, the 120 deg. Prism is perfect as my FP8 sits back with my laptop on a slightly elevated shelf. I haven't created any side barriers as you guys have yet, but I stuck a sharpie pen to get the angle I need. It's perfect, for my needs, and where I've placed the Faderport, it is now crystal clear, and it's completely enhanced the meter view to now something usable. Awsome!

When I get some time, I'll create some positioner to prop the prism to the pitch I need without using a pen. I agree. Possibly for most, the right angle prism will provide a more suitable view but in my case, it's not needed. The prism is of excellent quality.

I am happy, now when it comes to viewing the FP8 meters.
