Do all RM32ai mixer racks have an AVB capable option board installed ? Mine is a very early one and the option board installed in the rear has "control" labelled beneath the ethernet port. No mention of AVB there. I am seeking to link up the RM32ai with a CS18ai using MOTU AVB switch. Any advice to make this stress free ? ( other than RTFM ).

Yes, the rack mixer had AVB option cards from the beginning on. But it needed a firmware update to establish AVB functionality. There are new firmwares available in the Beta Test section of this forum. It's been said that they work quite well.
