Thank you for this.

I'm downsizing from a 16.4.2AI and considering the 192 for studio use.

I use Sonar and I'd like to know how many stereo return channels I can send to when mixing down from Sonar. On my elderly E-MU 1616M/PCIe I get 8 stereo pairs which show up in Sonar as outputs, and I see that the RME UFX and Focusrite Claret 8 Pre also both receive 2x8 incoming channels from DAW software. Can you please advise the equivalent number on the 192?

Many thanks and kind regards,

Simultaneous I/O up to 26 inputs / 32 outputs (8 x 14 at 192 kHz)

To get the full capacity mentioned, you would need additional preamps such as the DP88. The base 192 unit has 8 physical trs outs, in addition to the main out and 2 headphone outs.

Without an ADAT interface
1 main stereo
4 stereo lines outs
+
1 SPDIF Stereo

Thanks for this.

It's not the physical outs that I'm interested in, it's the links from the DAW back to the 192 for mixing. The above diagram suggests that only 8 channels are available in the 'StudioOne to Fat Channel' box and I'm currently getting 16 as showing available in Sonar to send to my E-MU 1616M (which is now unsupported and badly needs updating) or to the 16.4.2AI when I use this.

This is helpful as I can send 8 stereo busses from Sonar for mixing and then loopback the resulting mix with some external hardware FX back into a single track for recording a completed mix. I'd love to know whether the 192 can also receive 8 stereo busses from the software or whether it is limited to 4 stereo busses as indicated above.

I was wondering what your application is.
Not sure why you're going external when all of that is well taken care of these days in the box.

The answer is The same as the physical outs. Eight mono or four stereo + two mains + two for SPDIF.

Why are you not just using your board as the interface?

Thank you very much for this.

Fundamentally I do mix 'in the box' it's just like I like to use a separate virtual mixing desk and record the final mix from that, via what some interfaces call 'loopback', i.e. without leaving the box at all. From this virtual desk I tend to use digital I/O to add in a very little of my preferred external Lexicon reverb. It seems to help bind the mix together. It also means I can make final subtle tweaks to the mix just from the (virtual) desk which seems to help. Finally, to my ears there is something subtle about this type of summing in separate hardware to the DAW, so I'm keen to hang onto that too.

So, are you saying that if I had a 192, Sonar would be able to send to a total of six stereo busses to that (maybe five if I was using the spdif for my Lexicon) and the combined mix from the 192 mixer could be routed back via its software as an input in Sonar to record the total summed mix?

Many thanks,
Toby

The sad part is, no ASIO shows up on any DAW I use. its like the unit is ignoring ASIO,
or it doesn't have any at all. IF and I say (IF) this unit does have ASIO built in,
The ONLY thing that pops up for Studio 192-Mobile is something called -->> (ASIO)FireStudio
and I dont have or own any FireStudio.
shame on you presonus for not including the most important part, full ASIO support.
it says its compatible, but its really not, as it doesnt give you any.
I tested this on 5 different DAWs and I keep getting FireStudio ASIO,
and when I give in and choose FireStudio for the ASIO the device freezes my computer.
I never had that happen with anything before, accept this.

Anyways, this unit needs a LOT of R&D, because this device has ALL kinds of problems.
I keep finding problem after problem after problem.
I feel like I got screwed, because I purchased this product only to find out that a newer version was released. So now im stuck with an old device that seems the company will soon faze out of existence.
Ever since I purchased this in May 2019, it has never worked properly.
And I feel like I got royally screwed.

I already RMA'ed this device once, and Studio ONE v4 still does not recognize the device at ALL.
even with updated drivers and windows is fully updated.
I can listen to audio like normal on the computer, like youtube and everything else.
But I can not get Presonus to use it and I cant get OBS to recognize it either if I decide to stream.

This is just 1 screenshot out of 45 I have that accounts for problems with Studio-192-Mobile.
since presonus doesnt want to recognize the device, this is reason screenshot.

@djmindcraft1,

I know this is an old post, but I was just wondering which drivers you selected when installing Universal Control.

Are you getting the list of all Presonus drivers, with checkboxes beside them?

Cheers

I do not understand weather or not one can double a single physical input (mic or guitar) and send it to my PC as two separate channels.
My question is the following.
"Using Studio 192, is it possibile to route an input (e.g. a mic plugged in XLR #1 of Studio 192) into another channel (e.g. Adat 1) in order to get TWO input signals in my DAW?"
See enclosed Routing flow chart.
This was possible, e.g. in my old RME HDSP sound card using the loopback function (and it would possible in other soundcards, e.g. Motu or Antelope, that provide a matrix of input and output flows). Apparently this is not possible using Studio 192. There is no matrix option unless one uses StudioOne as DAW.
The question is independent of the specific DAW used (I currently use Cubase and Cakewalk by Bandlab beacuse I have some long experience with these DAWs)

I thought it could be done with Universal Control, but no, it cannot. It looks like the only way is within Studio One.

This is correct. And the solution was mentioned on a previous post. You need an interface with a loop back function. The new Revelator interfaces have that ability.
