Discuss the new Studio 192 and Studio 192 Mobile here

I'm using Studio 192 with Studio One 3.5.1. I was using 1/4 connections from my Helix to the 192, and that works fine. But I decided to try SPDIF to free up two inputs. As soon as I made this connection, I heard a noise when playing certain notes only on the right channel. I have two SPDIF cables from diff manufactures and they sound identical. The noise is "real" in that it gets recorded. I've recorded this with both SPDIF cables and my 1/4 connections and there's no doubt the noise is real and there, albeit subtle.

I've attached an MP3 that has the exact same settings for two takes - the first one has the noise and the second one doesn't. I left a space between the takes. You can't hear it at low volumes but it is obvious at higher volumes with headphones, which is the only way I work (headphones are DT770 Studios).

I use 44.1 kHz but tried 48 and that doesn't eliminate the noise. It's definitely not clipping or volume related (the volume when recording).

I'm hoping there's an adjustment I'm missing. If this is a defect in my 192, I'll just live with that since everything else works great.

I'm running a new PC with Win 10, 16 Gb RAM, SSD, i7 7700, 4.2Ghz processor, 64 bit.

are you on current UC version (v2.2)?
If yes, try to install v.2.1. and do 192 firmware rollback.
That did the trick for me.

I remember your post on this. I am on 2.2 so I'll give what you suggest a shot. It actually makes more sense that this is a software issue rather than hardware. We'll see! Thanks for helping. Doug

I'm stunned - that worked! But - everytime I open UC, it says I need to update the firmware and I can't get past that. When I click to update the firmware, it says it's up-to-date and gives me the option to just click OK or to update anyway. I tried both a few times, restarted the PC, etc., but can't get past that step. Did you run into this? I now have v 2.1 for UC and v 1.6-39 for the 192. I think I can live with this based on how I do things, but, I'd rather fix it.

Thanks!

UC is not good with being rolled back. I suggest a clean install (de-install before re-install). That should fix the Firmware update message.
best of luck
