In this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWCV4aHu8iM the guy says that they use the RM16AI as a 32 channel mixer as they live stage sound on 1 to 16 and 17 to 32 are digital channels from studio one. Any idea how to do this? I have iMac running studio one 4.5, RM16AI, CS18AI AVB switch, router, ipad, and Windows surface pro for UC / Capture. I have trawled everywhere to find an answer to no avail. If anyone could help I would be very grateful...

Well, the RM16AI has to be connected to the StudioOne computer using FireWire. It will not work with Ethernet!
Once connected with Firewire, you could have a recorded track set up in S1 and play it through channel 17 on the RM as long as the input source for channel 17 is set to FireWire and the output for that track is set correctly in S1 (should also be 17) and set the track to monitor (the blue button by the fader in S1) follow the same thing for 18-32 Steve

So if Im understanding this correctly, the digital channels on the RM16AI are more playback of something previously recorded, then a new "Digital in" signal via the 2nd firewire 800 port, or connecting another AVB interface device to another ethernet plug on the motu avb switch, etc, etc

Steve has described it very precise. You get channels 17-32 only via FireWire FROM ALREADY RECORDED TRACKS. Works in Studio One and should also work in Capture.

Making way more sense! A cascaded RM32AI & RM16AI gives 48 inputs and 64 playback
Somewhere in the back of my mind I was ThinkIng/hoping I could use an outside source, mixer, whatever, maybe like an old ADAT, run the lightpipe out into something like the MOTU LP32, using the avb out to the avb switch being used for cascading. Thank you for assisting the new to cascading folks.
