Hello,

I am currently doing some A/V work at my church for the summer. We use a PresSonus StudioLive 24.4.2. Our church is transitioning to live stream our services. We want to create a separate mix for the stream other than what is heard in the room. We are connected through firewire to Vmix (our chosen streaming software). We thought if we created an aux mix (for example Aux 4) and added it as an input in Vmix, then we would be able to have controls the same way you would when adjusting monitor mixes for the band on stage (press mix and adjust). This however doesn't work. When we pull Aux 4 into Vmix, it is as if a mains signal is being pulled in. This is because when We adjust gain or faders, the levels change in Vmix, but when we try to change the level controls the way we normally would in aux 4, nothing changes. Is there a way to fix this so that with firewire, the faders affect the room, and the aux controls affect the stream?

It seems that your Aux 4 is set to "Post" (postfade), which makes it react like an FX mix. Set Aux 4 to prefade (the button below "Solo"), then it will be an independent mix.

Hello,
Thank you for your response. The post/pre fader is something that we have tried, but has not worked yet. It works properly when taking a 1/4" aux out of the mixer and sending it somewhere but doesn't seem to work when trying to use firewire as an aux out to the stream.

Ah, I see. Didn't completely get this from the first post. The "post" setting is for physical audio, it does not affect the digital send, which is FireWire in your case. There should be an option in the menus to change pre and post for the digital sends, but this will NOT AFFECT THE FADERS and the mix you are sending to Vmix, only preprocessing and postprocessing (Fat Channel). In other words: You will not be able to record an aux MIX via FireWire, Main Mix L/R might be an exception.

A typical solution is to send an audio signal (aux mix) to a small audio interface and connect THIS interface with Vmix.

Depending on the Vmix interfacing capabilities this should be doable.

The 24.4.2 has 32 FireWire Sends: The first 24 are hard-coded to the mixer’s 24 channel inputs but the last 8 are user-assignable, in pairs, to a range of other mixer inputs and mixes. From the mixer you can assign e.g. Aux mixes 3 and 4 to FireWire Sends 25 and 26.

So if Vmix allows you to access FireWire Send 26 (or 25&26 for stereo when you link Auxes 3&4) then you should be good. Do make sure that Aux 4 (or 3 and 4) are set to Pre1 or Pre2 to have the mix independent from the main mix fader settings. :)

Thank you!! Assigning aux sends 3/4 to 27/28 worked!
