We are considering a 24r for our IEM system. We would like to keep the xlrs that are coming from our splitter plugged in to the 24r inputs. My question is, is there enough space between the front of the 24r and the lid of a standard rack case to keep them plugged in while the lid is closed?

Standard 19" racks also have "standard" lids, which depth is determined by the hardware used (e.g. corners). They do not have enough space for connectors permanently plugged in. But any flight case manufacturer can build a modified rack with a larger lid. You shoud be aware that a larger lid is heavier and changes weight balance. It might be difficult to transport the rack. Cables and connectors also have quite some weight...
It might be an idea to change the direction of the rack mixer inside the rack and fix the mixer in the middle of the rack. As the connectors will always stay at the same place, all you need access to is the on/off button. |

Consider an ABS rack case instead of plywood. ABS lids offer more space than conventional plywood ones.
What also helps is to use short-body plugs (those often found on snakes) or angled plugs. Last option: fix the mixer on threaded spacer tubes to the back of the rack rails instead of bolting it to the front of those rails as you normally would. The 24R isn't very deep so it should fit that way in most racks. |
