No Ethernet to connect a router, so I assume you need a computer to run it remotely with an iPad just like the old classic FW mixers did. Ugh.

If I wanted a mixer this small, it would be for quick little show setups where I don't want to load the rack up a flight of stairs, no computer needed would be important to me. Not all shows need recorded. But remote control is important.

Guess I'm still waiting on an RM8. . .

I am dreaming of a CS24AI with more encoders for the fat channel equalizer and 4 dedicated faders for DCA groups... ;-)

Well, we all know that the CS controller follows the footprint of the RM mixers, which is always 32 inputs and 16 aux. But there are different configurations. The smallest configuration is 16/8, the biggest is 64/16 and the configurations are called the "StudioLive AVB 16/32/48/64AI Mix Systems". The CS18AI is using the physical housing of a SL 16.4.2/AI, so a CS26AI and a CS34AI based on the other two AI mixer housings are imaginable. But I don't think that PreSonus is looking for "inhouse competitors" to their flagship SL series III, so let's face reality, which is interesting enough. Reality is an "old" mixer (obviously the best selling Presonus mixer ever), that seems to have undergone a complete inside change. As I understand it FireWire has been fully replaced by USB, which means

1) ...the use of UC Surface 2.x/QMix-UC instead of Virtual StudioLive/StudioLive Remote/Q-Mix

2) ...the replacement of a Ethernet/Remote control connector by USB, probably using the ethernet port of the connected computer

3) ...a 18x16 interface (USB) for Capture multirack recording instead of 16x16 (FireWire)

4) ...no Smaart functionality (RTA, Spectra, room wizzard) any longer, because the FireWire connection is missing...? Does Smaart work over USB? What kind of RTA are the 16.0.2 USB mixers using?

The product description says that there is full Smaart available, so time will tell. It just made my thoughts go round. If it is now possible to replace FireWire by USB and be able to use all features of Smaart and Capture, when will the AI family (SL, RM, CS) benefit from this? Is there a radical technology change ahead and a MK II for the AI family?

USB replaces FireWire. This is what the descriptions say. Or am I wrong?

I know, even if the FaderPort 8 would drive UC Surface on a PC via USB it would be cool.

Time has told... The description was updated. Smaart (RTA, Spectra, Room Wizzard) is not mentioned any longer, the new product obviously has no RTA functionality at all. At least I don't read anything about RTA any more.

Still a mystery is this sentence: "Mix wirelessly or over a wired network from anywhere using UC Surface touch-control software for Mac, Windows, Android™, and iPad®. Control individual monitor mixes onstage with QMix®-UC for iPhone®/iPod® touch and Android™." How can this work, when the mixer has no network connectivity at all?

The SL 16.0.2 USB is not shipping yet, so probably there are things still in development.

We will see...

It will connect through the PC/Mac on the network, similar to the Studio 192.
