Overview: If you have crossfades between events in your track, and you "Edit > Delete Time" in some locations, some of the downstream crossfades get expanded, cutting out some of your audio. Some Delete Time actions work as expected, others expand some downstream crossfades.

Setup: An Audio Track + multiple events + Crossfades (what you get automatically if you stop and pre-roll into the next event.)

(IF you have events with no crossfades, Delete Time works as expected. I haven't found any exceptions to date.)

If you have crossfades between events, and you use Delete Time BEFORE some event boundaries, it will expand some downstream crossfades wider, and you hear it in your audio.

IF you Delete Time with crossfades downstream in some areas, it works as expected.

Easy to reproduce, but not all Delete Time actions will expand the crossfades, it depends on where you are deleting time, and how close it is to an event edge. (IF the downstream event is moved into the time that was deleted, it almost always expands the crossfades.)

If your range selection crosses multiple events, almost always causes some downstream events to have wider crossfades, but not all of them. I couldn't figure out why it's only affecting some crossfades and not all downstream.

Would take more time to test everything, but you'll see it widening the crossfades in the GIF.

Side note: I never do all those steps via the menus. I know the keyboard shortcuts and use those instead. In the example I tried to do virtually everything via the menu to make sure the steps are followed. I have to think when using the menus, not when actually doing the actions.

The GIF looks all messed up to me. How does it look to others? I recorded it with "LICEcap" 1.25. It looks fine if I view it in Chome, but doesn't look right after the upload.

EDIT: Thanks for your suggestions below, now I understand how to embed the gif so the example shows without downloading. Thanks for the references!

The GIF is fine.
You have open the file when it is uploaded to this forum. Alternatively you can embed a URL or the GIF on a public server and it will be embedded.

I can see the bug.
Not at my DAW but cant report to the developers, however it would be great If someone else can confirm.

I can confirm this one:

Image

Crossfades handling is quite inconsistent in S1. They seem to fall apart quite easilily. I also reproted a bug where their order falls apart when editing multiple together.(jpetit already reported it): https://forums.presonus.com/viewtopic.php?f=151&t=9165&p=48768#p48768

Also if you have many crossfades in your song user interfaces becomes very laggy.

BTW - Since the bug is reported/confirmed here, should we also open a ticket with PreSonus tech support?

I'm assuming reporting it here is appropriate, and opening a ticket just makes more work for everybody. If I'm wrong and opening a ticket is helpful, please advise.

There are two parallel paths to the developers.
A confirmed bug via a support ticket and/or a confirmed bug from the community forum.

In this case is already been confirmed and reported on the community forum so you're ok.

Please let the developers know it's NOT only dependent on "Delete Time". It has negative impact on the Arranger too.

I just found this same bug occurs if you use the Arranger feature and move things around too.

It's not just "Delete Time" that can cause the crossfades to expand.

IF you change the timebase to seconds, and have snap off (I didn't try it with snap on, may or may not be an issue) I can move sections around, and at some point downstream crossfades become wider than they should be.

The "Bridge" section in this example was to the right... when dragged to its current position, it expanded the downstream crossfade.

Ive also reported these anomalies a while ago (via a ticket) and technical report answered the issues are logged by the developer team and may be resolved in a future update.

Bumping this just because I think it was resolved. At this minute I can't duplicate it with v3.1.1.

I know it's impossible to prove a negative (I can't prove it's fixed, just in my current testing it's working as expected, but it was always intermittent when I saw it before.)

I never saw anything about this fix in release notes.

Any way to find out if PreSonus thinks it's fixed? I'll keep testing, hope someone else tries it too...

I just tested a few options- a single track and grouped tracks and crossfades stay together when deleting time. So this one seems fixed in 3.1/3.1.1
